Father of six, James Van Der Beek opens up about his cancer diagnosis
James Van Der Beek, famous for starring in the series 'Dawson's Creek', has opened up about his serious health problems. He talked to People magazine about his diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
In the interview with People, the 47-year-old actor appeared to be very optimistic, despite the seriousness of the diagnosis.
"I have colorectal cancer. I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family. There’s reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good," the actor said.

Van Der Beek writes that this setback has not happened "on my preferred timeline," but he accepts that it is there and works to fix it.
Although James Van Der Beek has continued to work, he has slowed down a bit to prioritize time with his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and the six children they have together: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah.
In June 2024, the entire family took a trip to Egypt. They posted photos on social media. "We were gifted a magical experience, one I'm still processing – and might be for the rest of my life," the actor said on Instagram.

Colorectal cancer is a disease that appears in the colon or rectum and usually begins as small polyps that, if not detected and removed in time, can become cancer. Among the most recognizable symptoms are abdominal pain, blood in the stool, and involuntary weight loss.
One of James Van Der Beek's most significant upcoming jobs will be the premiere of 'The Real Full Monty'. It's a two-hour TV special in which several well-known male stars will go Full Monty to raise awareness about the early detection of prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer.
Coming to Fox on December 9, 2024, this special will feature people like Taye Diggs, Chris Jones, and Tyler Posey and will be produced by Anthony Anderson. It's based on the 1997 film with the same title.
James Van Der Beek is aware that by making his case public, he can raise awareness among more men to undergo tests that help with early detection. It's a great gesture on his part.
