Presumed dead: the internet star who jumped off Neymar's cruise ship

If Brazilian soccer star Neymar wanted his 'New Year at Sea' cruise to be unforgettable, he has achieved it - but not for the reason he expected.

The great party that the Brazilian footballer threw on the MSC Preziosa ship ended in tragedy after the presumed death of one of his guests, the internet star Carlos Candreva.

It was supposed to be a legendary trip, with music stages like this one, portrayed in the soccer player's Instagram. "Who would've guessed I'd have my name on a cruise..." the star commented giddily.

However, a tragedy occurred on December 30, 2023. The 32-year-old YouTuber and DJ Carlos Candreva jumped from the 15th floor of the ship directly into the sea. He has not been seen since.

Why did he jump? Apparently, the Brazilian influencer had an argument with his partner, the model Vitoria Bárbara Momenso.

According to what the model told 'Metrópoles', the couple had an open relationship. Both she and Carlos were allowed to date other people, they had agreed. However, Carlos Candreva didn't handle it well.

While he was on the cruise, he saw the messages that his girlfriend, Vitoria Bárbara Momenso, had exchanged with other men. Carlos Candreva got mad with jealousy.

At one point during the discussion, the YouTuber threatened to jump into the sea. People witnessing the fight couldn't believe their eyes when he actually did it.

As he fell into the sea, the Brazilian star disappeared completely. Bystanders could not see him anymore, let alone try to rescue him.

That same day, the Brazilian Navy began fruitless search efforts to find his body.

After a week it had to conclude that "due to the passage of time, the search area is too large."

The ship was on high seas when the YouTuber disappeared: 40 km (25 miles) off the coast. This complicated the search for the body significantly.

After a week of searching, the internet star has been presumed dead, Brazilian media and 'The Sun' report.

Meanwhile, Christiane Mota, the sister of Carlos Candreva, holds his girlfriend responsible for what happened.

"Carlos was practically ruined. She didn't throw him into the sea but she was the one who took him to that point," the deceased's sister said on social media, as reported by Brazilian outlets.

It's a painful situation for his family, who will not even have Carlos Candreva's body to bury, but the accusations against his girlfriend are unlikely to go far.
