Showbiz breakups of the past year

The past year saw several big stories of celebrities who ended their relationships, including Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Let's have a look at some of the star dramas in case you've missed them.

Two decades and 13 years of marriage ended for Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher. "After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down," Cohen posted on his Instagram account. The actors have always been known for keeping their private life and that of their children away from the limelight.

They soon became one of Hollywood's favorite couples. Their relationship began in February 2022 and by October 2023, they were engaged. Yet, it didn't last.

A source told US Weekly: "Wedding plans were looming, but neither of them were rushing to the altar. Ultimately once the project ended, they realized they were on different pages with what they wanted."

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott began their relationship when they were both married to other partners. After 18 years of marriage and five children, in March 2024, Tori finally filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”.

In March 2023, the couple announced their separation hoping for reconciliation. They finally decided to call it quits definitively in January 2024. AJ said on Instagram: "As you all know we have been separated for over a year now. While we have hoped for reconciliation we have decided to officially end our marriage." The Backstreet Boy and the hairstylist had been married since December 2011.

Having been married for seven years, the actress filed for divorce in January this year, two years after announcing their breakup. The dissolution of the marriage is believed to have taken effect in July.

After two years of marriage, JLo filed for divorce from Affleck. The couple broke up in April, but it was made official in August in a Los Angeles courtroom, TMZ reported. The couple had been engaged for the first time in the early 2000s, but their engagement did not come to fruition, then or now.

After marriage and two children, Aleph (2011) and Amalia (2017), this famous couple's divorce was finalized in March 2024. The actress had requested it eight months earlier but kept it secret. In 2023 it was revealed that Millepied had allegedly been unfaithful to Portman.

The model decided to separate from the British photographer after nine years together. "Kate and Nikolai have broken up and gotten back together numerous times over the past few months, and finally Moss decided it was time to cut ties and move on alone," an unnamed source told TMZ.

The source added that Moss "believes the two are now on different paths in their lives. This year, Kate turned 50 and feels fabulous, which has led her to think she wants to get back out there and have some fun over the holidays."

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan began their relationship with a dinner party in December 2023, and exactly one year later they broke up. While it's true their relationship has been characterized as a roller coaster with many ups and downs, this time it seems definitive.

A source close to the couple told Entertainment Tonight: "Barry and Sabrina have been on and off for a while, and right now they are not together. Sabrina is figuring out what she wants, and focused on her career."

After more than four years together and a month after announcing that they were expecting their first child, the couple announced this December that they had decided to go their separate ways.

Halle Bailey and musician Darryl Dwayne 'DDG' Grandberry Jr, had been in a relationship for two years and had a daughter, Halo. After several rumors during 2024, DDG announced through his Instagram account in October that the relationship had ended: "After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it's the best path forward for both of us."

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ryan Anderson got married while she was still in prison in 2022, where she served an 8-year sentence for conspiring to kill her mother along with her former boyfriend Nicholas 'Nick' Godejohn. However, 3 months after being released from prison Gypsy filed for divorce in April.

"Unfortunately my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am," Gypsy said on her Facebook account.

Over the course of the year, lots of things happened. She may or may not have found herself, but Gypsy definitely found another love and a baby too! She had a girl, Aurora, with her new boyfriend Ken Urker on January 1, 2025.

Cardi B and Offset have broken up many times since they began their relationship in 2017. In the summer of this year, Cardi B's rep confirmed that the singer had filed for divorce from Offset. A few days after the announcement she revealed that she was pregnant with the ex-couple's third child.

This couple, of Monegasque Princess Caroline's daughter and the French film producer, failed to overcome their problems after seven years of relationship. They had a son together, Balthazar. They also got married in 2019, but it was clear that what they tried, did not work.

In February, this couple announced that they were ending their relationship after five years. The beautiful British woman confirmed it on her social media. Victoria and David Beckham's son confirmed that he and Mia were no longer together.
