'The Devil Wears Prada' was released in theaters in 2006. Since then, the comedy has become a cult film. It also gave us one of the most hateful evil characters in the history of cinema: Miranda Priestly.

Of course, such an amazing character could only be played by one of Hollywood's brightest stars, Meryl Streep, who even got an Oscar nomination for Best Actress thanks to her role in the movie.

After almost two decades since its release, 'The Devil Wears Prada' has been able to make everyone agree on something: The film is one of the funniest and most brilliant comedies of the '00s. In this article, we will be telling you some of the facts that (maybe) you didn't know about the successful film starring Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and of course, the amazing Meryl Streep.

Although we can't imagine this movie without Anne Hathaway in the role of Andy, there was actually a time when producers believed that Rachel McAdams was the ideal actress to star in the movie. However, the actress wasn't interested in doing the movie and had to say no to the role up to 3 times.

But it seems that Anne Hathaway really wasn't the first choice for the producers because the role was also offered to the actress Claire Danes. However, this talented actress didn't make the cut.

The role of Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci, was initially offered to another actor: Thomas Lennon. The actor was actually already filming another movie and couldn't accept the role.

Even Meryl Streep wasn't the first choice for the role of Miranda in 'The Devil Wears Prada'. Instead, production had set their eyes on Glenn Close, but the actress wasn't interested in playing another villain and refused the role.

However, more than a hundred of girls auditioned for the role of Emily Charlton, Miranda's main assistant. Producers were really keen on Emily Blunt, but still, they had to see many actresses before taking the final decision.

Not many people know that one of the covers of Runway Magazine, the fashion Magazine of which Miranda was the director, was inspired by an actual cover of the August 2004 issue of Vogue. On the cover, we can see Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, and Riley Keough.

Whoever has seen the film remembers the story about Harry Potter's original manuscript: Andy is ordered to get it before it is published and sold in stores so that Miranda's daughters can read it before anyone else. Well, the copy of the manuscript that you can see in the movie was sold in an online auction for almost 600 dollars.

In the last scene of the film, Andy receives a call from Miranda, but really, if you pay attention to the actual phone screen, you can see that it is an outgoing call instead of an incoming one. A small, almost undetectable goof in the scene.

Meryl Streep's daughter, Mamie Gummer, also had a small role in the movie as a Starbucks barista, however, her scene was deleted in the end and never made it to the final edit of the film.

Instead of keeping them to herself, Meryl Streep donated to charity all of the clothes and outfits (very expensive and owned by some of the most fabulous brands in the world) that she wore on the set of the film.

The total budget of the film directed by David Frankel was 35 million dollars. However, the film's revenue surpassed 300 million dollars in the entire world, becoming a huge box office success.

There is still speculation about this. Many people claim the character of Miranda Priestly was inspired by Anna Wintour, the director of U.S. Vogue, and say that this is why many brands and designers didn't want to be involved in the movie. One of the exceptions is Valentino, who does a cameo in the film.

The movie 'The Devil Wears Prada' is based on a novel of the same name written and published in 2003 by Lauren Weisberger (in the picture).

This may be the reason why Rachel McAdams was first pointed out to play the role of Andy instead of Anne Hathaway: In the novel, the character is blonde and has similar physical characteristics to the 'Mean Girls' actress.

Before beginning filming the movie, Anne Hathaway was told to gain almost 10 pounds in order to lose them again during her character's transformation in the film.

Gisele Bündchen is mentioned in the novel and was asked to participate in the movie, however, the model had only one request: to play a different role and not herself… And she did, she was one of Emily's co-workers.

It looks like the character played by Emily Blunt is inspired by another real person: Anna Wintour's personal assistant, Plum Sykes (in the picture) who is now a writer.

During filming, Meryl Streep, to get into character, began to keep her distance from everyone else on set. In fact, according to Marie Claire, the actress said one last thing to Hathaway: "I think you are perfect for the role. I'm really happy to be working together. This is the last nice thing I'm going to say to you."

But in the set of 'The Devil Wears Prada', there was also time for building friendships, which is what happened between Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt. In fact, the actor met his wife, Felicity Blunt, sister of Emily, at the actress's wedding!
