They got awards for the worst acting

Sometimes projects just don't work out the way Hollywood producers, directors, and actors had hoped. In that case, you may expect a Razzie Award during the Oscar season.

This is what happened to Sia's film 'Music,' which bombed and got nearly everyone involved a Raspberry statue. Including supporting actress Kate Hudson.

Golden Raspberry

In 1980, film critic John J.B. Wilson created the Golden Raspberry, an award intended as a negative version of the Oscars. The Razzies are announced the day before the Oscars to acknowledge the worst films and performances of the year. It's is not the end of your career though. There are actors who have won both Razzies ánd Oscars.

Tom Cruise (2017)

Tom Cruise's achievement in 'The Mummy' caused people to miss Brendan Fraser. The film was the first about monsters for Universal Pictures and it would also be the last. The movie did, however, gross more than triple the amount it cost. That's something.

Jaime Dornan (2016)

'Fifty Shades of Grey' cost $40 million and raised $571 million. This profit and the beauty of the whole saga did not prevent the Razzies from naming Jamie Dornan the worst actor of the year. At least he didn't come and get it himself...

Dakota Johnson (2016)

Dakota Johnson, who played Anastasia Steele, was an unfortunate participant in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' hat-trick. In addition to its two main characters, the movie also got a 'worst film' award for that year. They say that time heals all wounds, but it will take Hollywood a while to get over this saga.

Kirk Cameron (2015)

The mythical Mike Seaver from 'Growing Pains' transformed from teen idol to evangelical film actor. He starred in 'Saving Christmas', a film promoting the Christian side of the New Year's Eve. His performance was criticized so severely that the actor's made no more films since then.

Cameron Diaz (2014)

It's not easy to make two movies in the same year and get a Razzie for both. Cameron Diaz did it with 'S** Tape' and 'The Other Woman'. How did she take it? She gave up acting for good - that's all.

Wanna see how Cameron Diaz is doing now?

Adam Sandler (2011)

Adam Sandler has the dubious honour of being the only performer to have Razzies for both Worst Actor and Worst Actress. In 'Jack and Jill' he got into the role of two twins, and it was considered one of the worst films in history.

Sex and the City 2 (2010)

Knowing that on the set of 'Sex and the City 2', there were bad vibes among the protagonists, the Razzies decided not to stir up more trouble in 2010 than there already was. They gave their award to all four of the cast: Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker. Well played.

Ashton Kutcher (2010)

This is another proud owner of two Razzies in one year. For both 'Killers' and 'Valentine's Day', he was crowned as the worst actor of 2010. A year later, he would make things even worse with his role in 'Two and a Half Men'.

Sandra Bullock (2009)

She got the Razzie for 'All About Steve' and took it in a better mood than anyone else. The actress not only picked it up personally, but she also brought a wheelbarrow full of DVDs of the film: "See it with your own eyes and say if I deserve this award," she said. One day later, Sandra Bullock won the Oscar for Best Actress for 'The Blind Side'.

The Jonas Brothers (2009)

'Jonas Brothers: the 3D Concert Experience' was a blockbuster.but the Razzies doen't look at profits. They value performance. And there, Kevin, Joe and Nick all got the award for worst actor.

Paris Hilton (2008)

That Paris Hilton got a Razzie for Worst Actress for 'The Hottie and the Nottie' did not surprise anyone. The movie has been considered one of the worst ever. However, the socialité was actually flattered by it, because it meant that the Razzies considered her an actress. A bad one, but still.

Mike Myers (2008)

'The Love Guru' is an unspeakable film that, surprisingly, has a spectacular cast with Jessica Alba, Ben Kingsley and Justin Timberlake. However, all lost the Razzie to Mike Myers who played an insufferable coach in the movie.

Lindsay Lohan (2007)

Lindsay Lohan has spent more years trying to get her career on track than succeeding as a movie star. 'I know who killed me', a murder story in which she played a key part, got her a Razzie and the movie a box-office smash.

Eddie Murphy (2007)

Among the three parts of Eddie Murphy's 'Norbit,' one was even worse than the other. The 1980s' King of Hollywood had been reduced to a caricature of bad jokes and impossible prostheses. The film took 3 Razzies... out of 13 nominations! Still, it cost only $10 million and grossed 123 million worldwide.

Marlon and Shawn Wayans (2006)

If the Wayans' humor already has its detractors, how would it be if one of them played a one-meter short delinquent in 'Little Man'? Obvious jokes and old-fashioned humour horrified a Hollywood that had entered a new era. The Razzie was for both Wayans brothers, Marlon and Shawn, so they didn't argue about it.

Rob Schneider (2005)

Rob Schneider's entire filmography is highly questionable. However, with 'Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo', he reached a minimum level of cinematic quality. He took the Razzie for worst actor and opted for the worst film as well.

Jennifer Lopez (2003)

The strange thing about JLo shooting 'Gigli' is that he was already a star with enough influence to reject this type of film. Perhaps, being able to shoot with her then boyfriend, Ben Affleck, clouded the vision of reality for both of them. The result was disastrous but historic: the first couple to take the Razzies for Worst Actress and Actor.

Ben Affleck (2003)

Ben Affleck had the chance of a Razzies hat-trick for 'Gigli', 'Daredevil' and 'Paycheck', all of which were released in 2003, but the third appeared to miss him. A week later, however, 'Larry King Live' handed Affleck the Razzie anyway, and the angry actor responded by tearing apart during the show. The broken Razzie was sold on eBay and the proceeds paid for the venue of the following year's ceremony.

Britney Spears (2002)

'Crossroads' was nominated for eight Razzies but only took two. Coincidentally, both went to Britney Spears: one for her performance and the other for her song: 'I'm not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman'.

Bill Cosby (1987)

'Leonard Part 6' won Bill Cosby three Razzies (Film, Screenplay and Actor). No wonder that the actor himself disowned the spy parody. Bill Cosby was the first to accept a Razzie in person. Not in a ceremony though, but on Fox's 'The Late Show'.

Roberto Benigni (2002)

Roberto Benigni is the clear example that Hollywood success is as ephemeral as a shooting star. In 1997, he made a big hit with 'Life is Beautiful'. Five years later, he raised 45 million euros to make 'Pinocchio', the most expensive film in Italian history. It raised only 16 million euros and earned its director and actor a Razzie.

Mariah Carey (2001)

By now, it's fairly predictable what happens when a big singer makes the jump to the movies, and in a leading role at that. Mariah Carey, one of the great song divas of the 90s, took a tremendous hit with 'Glitter'. The public and critics tore her to pieces and the Razzies finished off the job with the award for Worst Actress.

Halle Berry (2004)

In 2002, Halle Berry was the great diva of Hollywood with her Oscar for Best Actress in 'Monster's Ball'. Two years later, she won the Razzie for 'Catwoman', which many consider the worst film in history. Despite this, the actress attended the gala and picked it up. Critics applauded the gesture.

John Travolta (2000)

John Travolta has the virtue of rising from his ashes like a phoenix. And the truth is that Hollywood has burnt him several times. The most notorious instance, perhaps, was with 'Battlefield: Earth'. Nominated for eight Razzies, it got seven. Plus, it cost 73 million dollars but the box office didn't reach 30. Moreover: Did anyone really think Travolta with dreadlocks was a good idea?

Adam Sandler (2011-2012)

Not one, nor two, nor three, but seven are the Razzies collected by Adam Sandler, an actor/director who threatens to continue accumulating awards in the coming years. He was the first actor to win the award for Worst Actor ('That's my son') and Worst Actress ('Jack and Jill') at the same time.

In the meanwhile, he is one of the best paid actors in 2020. So no complaints there.

Bruce Willis (1999)

Bruce Willis has Travolta syndrome. That is, he alternates legendary movies with major flops. In 1998, after signing the epic 'Armageddon', he also shot 'The Siege' and 'Mercury Rising', both of which earned him the Razzie Award for worst actor of the year.

Will Smith and Jaden Smith (2013)

In 2013, the Smiths made history by becoming the first father and son to win the Razzie. It was for the movie 'After Earth'. Will took Worst Actor and Jaden Worst Supporting Actor. At age 15, Jaden became the youngest Razzie winner in history.

Donald Trump (2018)

The president of the United States, while already in office, took Razzie for Worst Actor in 2018 for his 'performance' in the documentaries 'Death of a Nation' and 'Farenheit 11/9'. Obviously, he was the first president in office to win a Golden Raspberry.

Spice Girls (1998)

'Spice World: The Movie' was a big hit at the box office, raising $150 million after a cost of only 25 million. However,  the Spice Girls' acting abilities were called into question. Geri, Mel B, Mel C, Emma and Victoria each took 20% of the Razzie for Worst Actress.

Demi Moore (1996)

Another clear example of the twists and turns of Hollywood. Demi Moore went from being the actress of the moment ('Ghost' and 'Indecent Proposal') to starring in 'Stript****', a film of dubious quality in which her breast was the protagonist. She received a Razzie for Worst Actress.

Elizabeth Berkley (1995)

Interestingly, Demi Moore could have learned from the example of Elizabeth Berkley in 'Showgirls' and the turn of her career after that debacle. The film had eleven nominations of which it took seven Razzies home. The award winner who collected his prize was the film's director, Paul Verhoeven.

Sharon Stone (1994)

Initially, 1994 was a good year for Sharon Stone. She was going to shoot with Richard Gere ('Intersection') and with Sylvester Stallone ('The Specialist'). Unfortunately, she also got a Razzie for Worst Actress. It had only been two years since the success of 'Basic Instinct'.

Burt Reynolds (1993)

Hollywood classics have had their share of Razzies, too. One of the biggest, Burt Reynolds, got his award for 'Cop and a Half'.

Melanie Griffith (1992)

Melanie Griffith was a Hollywood star when the fateful year 1992 arrived. Neither 'Shining Through' or 'A Stranger Amount Us' had the expected success, nor did the actress live up to her name in either film. The result: Razzie time.

Kevin Costner (1991)

Another curious case of a film that swept the box office (costing 48 million and raising 390 million) but also got Razzies: 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'. Kevin Costner won a Razzie for his role as the famous thief. It was one year after he'd won the Oscar as director of 'Dancing with Wolves'.

Heather Locklear (1989)

Heather Locklear is one of those actresses you'd expect having a Razzie on her resume. If we add that she got it for 'The Return of the Swamp Thing', it all seems even more logical. But go figure: this was just four years away from the role of her life: Amanda Woodward in 'Melrose Place'.

Liza Minnelli (1988)

Have we already mentioned that Hollywood has no memory? You can be the queen of musical one year, and be smashed for your performance in 'Rent-A-Cop' and 'Arthur 2: On the Rocks' in the next. In 1988 it was Liza Minnelli's turn for a Razzie.

Madonna (1986)

The Queen of Pop is big until she fails. She took the Razzie for Worst Actress in 1986 and did not hesitate to repeat the following year. 'Shangay Surprise' and 'Who's That Girl?' were the two films that earned her a place on the Golden Raspberry list.

Linda Blair (1986)

The problem with your third film being 'The Exorcist', the highest-grossing horror film for over 45 years, is that it's all going downhill from there. Linda Blair was crowned in 1986 when she received the Razzie for Worst Actress for three films in a row: 'Night Patrol', 'Savage Island' and 'Savage Streets'.

Laurence Olivier (1982)

Seven nominations and an Oscar to his credit ('Hamlet') did not stop Laurence Olivier from also joining the list of dubious Razzie winners. It was for 'Inchon', a war film that was by no means the worst of the year, but the Razzies knew that with powerful names their ceremony would get visibility. And they were right.

Faye Dunaway (1981)

She was the second actress to win the Razzie (shared with Bo Derek) and she did so with a drama that no one expected to be worthy of such an award. The result was that 'Mommie Dearest' caused a stir around Joan Crawford but did not go down in history as it should have done as a film.

Bo Derek (1981)

Bo Derek got into Jane Parker's shoes in 'Tarzan: The Ape Man,' only to become the second actress (shared with Faye Dunaway) to win a Razzie for Worst Actress. She would return to the Razzies three years later with 'Bolero'.

Brooke Shields (1980)

Brooke Shields says that when she shot 'The Blue Lagoon', she was 14 years old and had little experience in film. In spite of this, the Razzie family showed no mercy and chose her to win the Razzie for worst actress.

Neil Diamond (1980)

The singer who makes the jump to the movies... He often fails. In this case, it was quite a serious matter because Neil Diamond had come out of a life-threatening spinal tumor operation a year before the release of 'The Jazz Singer'. And not even then the Razzie would spare him a prize for Worst Actor.
