A shocking interview

The airing of Oprah Winfrey's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry about their decision to leave behind royal life and all that it entails has caused many stars to react with shock and anger. Click on to see what America's biggest celebs had to say about the mistreatment and racism that the couple faced from the Royal Family.

Serena Williams

Tennis legend Serena Williams showed her support to Markle by sharing a tweet message: "Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life - and leads by example - with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to truly be noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she's experienced."

'Vilifying women and people of color'

She also wrote: 'I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of colour minimise us, to break us down and demonise us. We must recognise our obligation and decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimisation are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.'

Amanda Gorman

Poet Amanda Gorman made a statement saying, "Meghan was the Crown's greatest opportunity for change, regeneration, and reconciliation in a new era. They didn't just maltreat her light - they missed out on it."

Bernice King

The daughter of Martin Luther King JR. Bernice King also shared her support via the social media platform:
"Royalty is not a shield from the devastation and despair of racism. #MeghanMarkle"

'Grateful Meghan is still here'

King, an anti-racism activist, also tweeted that she is "grateful that Meghan is still here."

Billie Jean King

Tennis star Billie Jean King took the opportunity to speak about the importance of recognizing mental health issues. She tweeted,
"Among the revelations from the Meghan and Harry interview is Meghan's struggle with mental health. Her honesty will hopefully lead to more acceptance and more help for those who need it."

Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith, the host of "The Red Table Talk", photoshopped a picture of her show to add the Queen. She posted the picture on her Instagram @jadapinkettsmith with the caption, "I can't wit y'all!!!

Sarah Silverman

Comedian Sarah Silverman thinks that after everything Meghan's been through, Harry should be taking her name. Silverman tweeted, "Harry should take Meghan's last name!"

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union seemed very hooked on the interview and shared several tweets on the subject. In particular, a tweet she shared and commented on spoke about the difference in treatment between Meghan and Kate, black and white women, and she commented, "Every. Single. Day."

Meena Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris' niece Meena Harris shared several tweets. She called Oprah "Her Majesty The Queen Oprah" and declared the day should be "Meghan Markle Day" from now on. Meena, a children's author, also wrote on Twitter: "She was suicidal and begged for help. Oprah bout to fight somebody her damn self."

Leslie Jordan

Actor Leslie Jordan took a more humorous approach to show his support for Meghan and all she has been through. Jordan tweeted, "We got your back, honey.....We've got more Queens than they do :)"

Norman Ornstein

Political scientist and author Norman Ornstein couldn't hold back his shock over how the Royal Family has treated Meghan Markle. He tweeted, "Of every shocking element of the way Harry and Meghan and Archie were treated by "the firm," the idea that they would be stripped of security at a time when they were under siege with racist death threats is simply monstrous."
