Jamie Foxx accused of misconduct; denies everything
Actor Jamie Foxx is in the eye of the storm after an accusation of s e x u a l assault in a New York courtroom surfaced. In response, the actor claims it never happened.
The alleged incident occurred in 2015 at Catch NYC, a popular restaurant in the city, according to the lawsuit obtained by CNN.
The lawsuit was filed on November 22 by a woman who remains anonymous and was identified as Jane Doe. She claims Foxx touched her inappropriately on various parts of her body.
The woman also stated that Foxx, who is 55 years old, appeared "intoxicated" at the time the incident occurred.
According to the legal document, as cited by AP, the accuser and a friend were sitting at a table next to Foxx in the Catch NYC restaurant. The woman noticed Foxx and asked him for a photo. He responded by posing for several pictures with her.
However, as the legal documents state, the meeting changed tones when the actor began praising the woman for having a "supermodel body" and telling her she looked like actress Gabrielle Union.
Then, according to the accusation, the actor grabbed her arm and took her to a secluded area. There, he allegedly put both hands under her blouse and touched her. She tried to move away, but then he put his hands in her trousers as well.
A representative for Foxx shared a statement on Thursday, November 23, in which he states that "the alleged incident never occurred."
"In 2020, this individual filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Brooklyn. That case was dismissed shortly thereafter. The claims are no more viable today than they were then. We are confident they will be dismissed again," the representative said.
Once the allegations are dismissed, the actor's representative continued, "Mr. Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against this person and her attorneys for re-filing this frivolous action."
According to AP, the woman is requesting a monetary compensation. The exact number would be determined in court if a trial is held.
The lawsuit was one of many filed this week under a temporary New York law, the Adult Survivors Act. It allows adult victims to sue for alleged sexual assaults that previously would have been outside the statute of limitations.
2023 does not seem to be a good year for Jamie Foxx, the Oscar-winning actor and TV host.
In April 2023, the actor was admitted to the hospital with seemingly severe health problems. He remained hospitalized for several weeks but never disclosed what exactly he was being treated for.
Due to his sudden illness, the shooting of his new movie, 'Back in Action,' was disturbed. The Netflix comedy also stars Cameron Diaz in her first role after almost a decade off-screen.
In an Instagram video, cited by The Guardian, the actor commented on his illness in July. "I cannot even begin to tell you how far [the health problem] took me and how it brought me back. I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through," he said in the video. With the accusations targeting him in November 2023, it seems that Jamie Foxx will have another hurdle ahead to overcome.
