Queen Camilla joins list of British Royals backing out the spotlight
Queen Camilla is set to take a break away from royal duties. Ever since the King was diagnosed with cancer and the Princess of Wales was been out of action due to an abdominal procedure, Queen Camilla and her step-son Prince William, have been taking the reigns.
But with William’s recent absence at an important memorial event and now Queen Camilla set to take a break, this difficult period in the royal family seems to be taking its toll. Hello! confirmed that Queen Camilla will ‘take a small break away from royal duties’ and that other members of the royal family will jump in when needed.
Those in the close family who will likely step up are the King's sister, Princess Anne and his brother and sister-in-law, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. These senior royals may also see a rise in their royal duties as the King, the Queen and The Princess of Wales are seemingly out of action.
So far, neither the media nor the palace itself has confirmed that Prince Andrew would be back to assist in royal duties. Eyebrows were raised at King Constantine’s memorial in February as he led the Royals into the service at Windsor Palace.
The Independent, however hints the ‘belief’ that the disgraced royal wishes to return to public life. Is there now an opportunity, with so many royals OOO?
Queen Camilla was present at the memorial for the former Greek King. She has also hosted a group of hundreds of children ahead of the final of the BBC's 500 words competition, and welcomed Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska into Clarence House following the two-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, according to Hello! Magazine.
The Queen Consort, since her marriage to Charles in 2005, has become Patron or President of over 90 charities. This charity work is varied but includes charities promoting health, literacy, the arts, animal welfare and those supporting survivors of s**al assault.
The Independent reported that royal observers have suggested the King himself may have stepped in to ensure his wife is not burnt out. They report that the monarch will have ‘insisted’ his “exhausted” wife Camilla should have a break.

But well before the King’s health update in 2024, The Queen had already found her schedules pressing. When the King’s cancer diagnosis was announced, Buckingham Palace announced that "Her Majesty will continue with a full programme of public duties." Now, Hello! Magazine hints that a whole week will pass before the public will see the Queen again.
The aforementioned media state that she will likely spend time with her husband during her time off, as well as other members of her family. The Queen has five grandchildren and five step grandchildren, as proudly stated on the Royal website.
Royal correspondent Michael Cole told GB News that "she will probably spend a lot of time down at Ray Mill, her house down in Wiltshire." The Mirror state that Camilla, 76 is "recharging her batteries’ and 'jetting off on a private flight for a sunshine break overseas."
Queen Camilla will be back and, as stated by The Sunday Times, she is "prepared to do whatever needs to be done for the institution."
The Queen is expected to return to royal duties in order to lead the royal family for the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on the 11th of March.
