Lowcountry, South Carolina, and Georgia, United States

Starting with regions, Lonely Planet recommends this area of the United States for its sultry vibes, miles of beaches, and charming cities like Charleston and Savannah. It’s also ideal for foodies and those interested in exploring the country’s complex history.

Chiriquí, Panama

Located on the western edge of Panama, this province is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers. From its astounding biodiversity to a botanical garden with over 2,000 types of orchids, and thrilling rafting opportunities, this pristine spot offers amazing rewards for the adventurous.

The Terai, Nepal

These Nepalese lowlands may not be as famous as the Himalayas or Kathmandu, but they offer incredible experiences like spotting one-horned rhinos and visiting the Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini, where the Buddha is said to have been born around 563 BCE. Oh, and don’t miss the stunning tea gardens.

Launceston and the Tamar Valley, Australia

On Australia’s island state of Tasmania, you’ll find this charming, off-the-beaten-path region. If you’re into platypuses, wallabies, or stunning vineyards, you’ll definitely want to explore this hidden gem.

Valais, Switzerland

This mountainous area is home to some of the world’s most famous peaks, including Verbier, Zermatt, and the Matterhorn. This year, it will host the World Mountain Bike Championships, but it’s also perfect for hiking or, if you’re more inclined to relax, riding cable cars to a viewpoint where you can see 14 glaciers and more than 30 peaks above 4,000m (13,123ft).

Jordan Trail, Jordan

This relatively new 676 km (420-mile) trail is the perfect way to discover Jordan’s natural beauty, warm hospitality, and iconic sites like Petra. Be sure to enjoy mint tea and falafel at the legendary restaurant Hashem in the capital city of Amman.

Giresun and Ordu, Turkiye

This under-the-radar region of Turkiye, located on the Black Sea, offers breathtaking coastal and mountainous landscapes ideal for hikes.
