What does the perfect male behind look like? It’s a really weird question. If you think it is answered differently for every person, you’d be right. But science has finally laid bare what the perfect b u t t looks like and the answer may surprise you.

The best male behinds have a little bit of oomph

Researchers interested in adding to the extremely rigorous scientific discourses on male but t ocks and what makes them attractive recently revealed that the perfect male behind was one that had a little oomph to it. But not too much apparently.

The perfect b. is not too big and not too small

The best man bottoms are ones that aren't too flat nor ones that stick out too much. The perfect b u t t on a guy is kind of like the Goldilocks and the Three Bears fairy tale. It has to be just the right defined shape with a little projection, PsyPost noted.

The researchers' definition of the ideal bottom

The research was published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, but the definition it provided of a perfect male b u t t was a little technical in its description. People loved "a more projected male b u t t o c k with a more pronounced contour, but preferred a narrow width with defined lateral depression."

Cracking the code is a little more complicated

However, cracking the code to the perfect derriere for guys was not the most interesting thing the researchers discovered. It turns out that preferences regarding the backside of a man actually vary depending on a couple of important factors.

Age and cultural background change preferences

One's age and cultural background were two important factors that shaped how both men and women's thoughts about the perfect t u s h y on guys. For example, the younger crowd of those surveyed (18-34) preferred thigh-to-b u t t ratio and oblique projection.

The young like big but the older like them smaller

Older folks, for our purposes all those between the ages of 45 and 55, preferred a more moderate protrusion of a male's rear end and were also more likely to be big fans of the lowest thigh-to-bu tt ratio used by the researchers in the study.

Big bottoms versus little derrieres across cultural groups

Another great example of how individual our desires are as humans was found in all of the cultural preferences uncovered by the researchers. African Americans preferred the largest lateral thigh-to-butt ratio and oblique projection angles.

There are differences based on race and preference

However, Asian and White respondents were more interested in gentlemen who had a moderate oblique projection. "There are differences in ideal bu tt ock appearance based on race and se*ual preference," study co-author Ash Patel told PsyPost.

Certain features appeal to some over others

"There are certain features that make up the ideal appearance of a male bu t t ock," Patel explained, "especially the presence of ‘hip dips,’ which are an important difference in the appearance between male and female bottoms."

Se*ual orientation also affected the idea of the perfect butt

Patel also noted that gender identity did not affect differences in the ideal male behind, but the study did show that se*ual orientation did have an impact on what both men and women found most attractive about a man when gazing at his bottom.

Bise*ual preferences versus hetero preferences

Bise*ual respondents generally favored "larger ratios and angles" according to PysPost, whereas heteros generally preferred the opposite. But things got much more interesting when the researchers looked at how body weight affected preferences.

Weight also appeared to play a big role in the best butts

People with a normal body mass index preferred moderate lateral thigh-to-bottom ratios but those who were overweight or obese favored a higher ratio, which PsyPost said may be a subconscious desire to "balance body proportions or enhance physical attributes."

So why does all of this research matter?

Researchers gathered 822 females and 1,273 males for their study and asked each to answer a questionnaire to rate images or male butts based on their attractiveness. But why does all of this matter? Well, because it helps us understand how to assist others.

We don’t know much about the best-looking male derrieres

"The drive to understand the ideal male b ut to cks aesthetic comes from an observed gap in existing research," explained PsyPost's Eric Dolan, who added that roughly 1.1 million men sought out cosmetic surgeries in 2019 in the United States alone.

The research might actual help others someday

"While numerous studies have focused on defining the perfect female bu t t oc ks, little to no research has been directed towards understanding what constitutes an attractive male bu tt oc k," Dolan added, meaning this research could actually help others.
