A handful of countries

The most expensive homes in the world are concentrated in just a few countries. When considering the wealthiest neighborhoods or streets, the list has only five: the U.S., China, France, The U.K., and Singapore.

Average

Despite more pricey real estate and streets in other places, one needs to look at average prices to compile a list of the most expensive neighborhoods. This means that a list of the most expensive neighborhoods in the world may not include some of the best-known luxury locations.

Esher, U.K.

According to Rarest.org, the U.K. suburb of Esher has an average home price of 2.41 million dollars.

Tribeca, New York

Tribeca may not be the first New York location that comes to mind when considering expensive neighborhoods. Still, it is all a matter of average, and each home has one of 3.7 million dollars in this area, according to Rarest.

All the streets around Central Park

However, if we narrow it down to street level, three other neighborhoods have the most exclusive ones in the city, according to Business Insider. Central Park South, Park Avenue, and Fifth Avenue are the world's third, fourth, and seventh-most expensive ones.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris

It is not surprising that Paris is on the list, as it is one of the most expensive cities in the world according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Worldwide Cost of Living index. Saint-Germain-des-Prés has an average home price of 4.2 million dollars.

Medina, Washington

Medina is home to tech millionaires like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. It has a private surveillance program and a home price average of 6.2 million dollars.

Glenbrook, Nevada

Home to Lake Tahoe, Glenbrook has a few of the most expensive recreation homes in the U.S. After Mark Zuckerberg purchased an estate in 2018, other tech execs followed, according to Forbes. The average price is 7.5 million dollars, but some houses are listed for hundreds of millions.

Atherton, California

According to the BBC, in 2020, Atherton was the wealthiest town in the U.S. The small village houses some of the most prominent millionaires of Silicon Valley. It is difficult to find a property in the area for less than 2.5 million dollars, and the average price is 10.7 million.

Pacific Coast Highway, Los Angeles

But L.A. is not off the list, either. Narrowing down to streets, the Pacific Coast Highway is the eighth most expensive one in the world, according to Business Insider. Ten properties on this road were sold for more than 25 million dollars.

Port Royal, Naples, FL

Port Royal is a neighborhood in Naples, Florida, with direct access to the Gulf beaches. The average home is listed for 17.9 million dollars.

South Ocean Boulevard, Palm Beach

Just across the peninsula, in Palm Beach, South Ocean Boulevard made it to Business Insider's list of most expensive streets in the world, in tenth place.

Paterson Hill, Singapore

According to Bloomberg, despite being only 278 square miles, the city-state of Singapore has a significant reputation in finance. According to Rarest, the Paterson Hill neighborhood has an average home price of 35 million dollars.

Kensington, London

Bussines Insider has qualified Kensington as one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in London. The neighborhood is home to billionaires, embassies, and the royal Kensington Palace. According to Zoopla, it has an average property price of around 36.1 million dollars.

Grosvenor square

Very near to Kensington, just across Hyde Park, is the fifth most expensive street in the world. Business Insider claims that 13 ultra-prime (more than 25 million dollars) sales have occurred there.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a complicated city. It has three of the most expensive streets but not a high-enough neighborhood average to make it to the list. According to Business Insider, Mount Nicholson Road, Mount Kellett Road, and Conduit Road had 55 ultra-prime sales this year combined.

Record-breaking sales in the U.S.

Despite the pandemic crisis, the luxury real estate market in the U.S. keeps thriving. According to Forbes, 2021 was one of its best years, with record sales of more than 150 million dollars. The numbers for 2022 are not out yet, but it is safe to say that it probably thrived again.
