Brazilian Miss, 27 years old, dies of a shocking cause

Miss United Continents 2018, Gleycy Correia, from the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), has died at the age of 27. The cause of her death is simply shocking.

Gleycy, who was also a semifinalist for Miss Brazil World, had undergone an operation to remove her tonsils.

Although it is a low-risk procedure, the young woman had complications that led her to go into a coma and remain hospitalized for about two months.

According to the country's Legal Medical Institute (IML), she suffered pneumonia, anoxic encephalopathy, cardiorespiratory arrest, hemorrhagic shock and tonsillar artery hemorrhage.

Doctor Renato Roithmann, president of the Brazilian Association of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervico-Facial Surgery (ABORL-CCF), told the outlet O Globo that causes of death like this are "extremely rare."

"Postoperative bleeding is the most frequent complication of tonsillectomy. It can happen in about 2% to 7% of cases on average", Renato Roithmann told O Globo. He also explains that this complication is "completely circumvented with the patient communicating it to his doctor."

Gleycy Correia was a businesswoman in the beauty industry. She explained her specialty on social media: micropigmentation, a kind of permanent makeup.

Gleycy said on her Instagram that she started working as a manicurist at the age of 8. "I wasn't born into a golden cradle, I come from a humble family, but I'm so proud of it," she said in a post.

Very religious, Gleycy always shared her achievements on her Instagram profile, as well as motivational messages and biblical passages.

In fact, it was the pastor of the church that Gleycy attended who first broke the news of her death to the website 'Splash.' Afterward, Miss Brazil's official Instagram profile confirmed the facts.

"Gleycy will always be remembered for her enlightened beauty, joy, and empathy shown in her social project, having restored the self-esteem of so many women who faced breast cancer by redesigning the breast areola for free. Follow the light, dear Gleycy." These were the Miss Brazil organizers' words for the deceased young woman.

Gleycy Correia had more than 50 thousand followers on Instagram. Many of them mourned her death through various messages in their photos.
