It's no surprise that when you spend half of your life in a hotel, death can come to you in the solitude of your own room. These are some celebrities who tragically passed away in hotels.

 

 

Liam Payne - Casa Sur Hotel, Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2024)

The former member of One Direction fell from the third floor of an Argentinian hotel and ended up in the hotel's inner courtyard. He was intoxicated and seemed to have wanted to 'escape' his room, authorities later declared. Liam Payne died shortly after his fall.

Whitney Houston - Beverly Hills Hotel, Los Angeles (2012)

The music diva was found dead in the bathtub of her room after an accidental drowning due to cocaine use and a heart attack. Her addictions were fatal for this 49-year-old music legend.

Stephen 'tWitch' Boss - Hotel Oak Tree Inn Monday (2022)

A gunshot inside the hotel room warned those who heard it that something was going on. Police found 'The Ellen Show' co-host lifeless, on the floor of the Oak Tree Inn Monday. He was 40 years old.

Bob Saget - Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Orlando (2022)

After a hit in the head that the actor didn't pay attention to, Saget went to bed and passed away in his sleep because of head trauma. The comedy star was 65 years old and was one of those celebrities that was equally loved by the audience and the Star System.

Janis Joplin - The Landmark Motor Hotel, Los Angeles (1970)

The unique and unforgettable singer became one of the 27 Club when she died of a heroin overdose in the room of this Hollywood hotel.

James Gandolfini - Boscolo Exedra Hotel, Rome (2013)

The legendary Tony Soprano was in the Italian capital to participate in the Taormina Film Festival. Sadly, he passed away due to a heart attack in room 449 of this emblematic hotel. He was just 51.

Jimi Hendrix - Samarkand Hotel, London (1970)

At 27, he was also part of the infamous 27 Club. This incredible artist died of vomit suffocation after a drug overdose. He was a headliner at the iconic Woodstock Festival of 1969.

Coco Chanel - Hotel Ritz, Paris (1971)

She was 87 years old when she passed away from a heart attack. Her death in the Ritz Hotel was not coincidental: the designer had lived there for three decades.

Cory Monteith - Fairmont Pacific Rim, Vancouver (2013)

An overdose was the end for the 31-year-old 'Glee' actor - one of the most promising Hollywood stars.

Michael Hutchence - Ritz Carlton Double Bay, Sydney (1997)

Room 524 of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Sydney was the deathbed of one of the most influential artists of the '90s. The depression caused by the legal battle over her daughter's custody led him to consume a fatal cocktail of pills. He was 37 years old.

Anna Nicole Smith - Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Florida (2007)

At only 39 years old, the life of the Playboy model, actress, and TV personality ended due to a drug overdose. It was in room 607 where one of the most relevant reality TV stars of the time spent her last moments.

John Belushi - Chateau Marmont Hotel, Los Angeles (1982)

After almost four decades, the people that knew this legendary comedian still recall his sudden death. He died of a heroin and cocaine overdose at only 33 years old in the bungalow number 3 of Chateau Marmont.

 

Nancy Spungen - Chelsea Hotel, New York (1978)

Sid Vicious stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spungen in room 100 of this famous New York hotel. Nancy was just 20 years old when she bled herself on the bathroom floor.

David Carradine - Swissôtel Nai Lert Park Hotel, Bangkok (2009)

One of the most shocking deaths of the Star System. The 72-year-old actor is said to have died due to dangerous sexual practices after being found naked and strangled in the Bangkok Hotel.

Selena Quintanilla - The Days Inn, Corpus Christi, Texas (1995)

Selena technically died in the Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital of Texas, but the events that will end up with her life took place at the Texan hotel. Yolanda Saldívar —an employee Quintanilla had fired— shot the TexMex queen in her hotel room and murdered the 23-year-old singer.

The great chef ended his own life following a deep depression. It happened at a French hotel when he was filming an episode of his cooking show 'Parts Unknown'.

Divine - Regency Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles (1988)

People magazine named Divine the Drag Queen of the Century, but she met her destiny at only 42 years old when she died of a heart attack. She was about to premiere the film 'Hairspray'.

John Entwistle - Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas (2002)

'The Who' bass player was broke when the iconic band decided to get back on tour to financially help him. Just one day before starting said tour, John Entwistle died of an overdose at 57 in room 658 of the Las Vegas hotel.

Chris Cornell - Hotel MGM Grand Detroit, Michigan (2017)

The leader of the legendary band 'Soundgarden' died at 52 years old in this hotel, several hours after performing in a concert. The exact reason for his death was never disclosed.
