Celebrity breakups of the past year

The Sun reported in December that world star Dua Lipa and her boyfriend, the model and Hadid dynasty member, have split up. It cited people close to the couple who claimed that the busy workloads of both stars was the cause of their separation. They were simply too far apart, too often.

Life is constantly changing and, yes, love ends sometimes. Apart from Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid, it happened to other celebrity couples as well. Take the case of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, absolutely stunning pop stars and a match like no other. On November 17, they officially announced that they were ending their two-year relationship.

Also in November, record producer Stevie J filed a petition for divorce from singer Faith Evans. They had been married for three years. Page Six obtained the court documents of the divorce. The couple had gotten married in Las Vegas in 2018.

The supermodel and actor from 'Euphoria' had been dating for a year when their relationship suddenly halted in late October 2021. A source told E! News that the split had been "amicable." Seventeen reported that "Kaia removed some pictures of Jacob from her Instagram and they were noticeably missing in action this Halloween, signaling trouble in paradise." The reason? Conflicting schedules which caused them to rarely see each other. A common problem for celebrity couples.

The singer and the billionaire owner of the Tesla automobile company announced their separation in September after three years of marriage and child together: X Æ A-12 Musk. They claimed that they could not stay together due to work which forces them to live in different cities.

This was an interesting celebrity breakup in 2021, because the two got back together afterwards! One Direction star Liam Payne and model Maya Henry made their relationship official in the summer of 2019. Nearly two years later, they broke up. Now, rekindling their love, the couple are reportedly 'taking it slow' to avoid any new problems.

Complete shock in Asian showbiz media: actress Barbie Hsu filed for divorce from the Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei after more than a decade of marriage. They have two children together: a daughter born in 2014 and a son in 2016. Over the course of the pandemic, the family was largely split up, the Straits Times reports, with Hsu and the kids in their Taipei home while Wang was at work in China.

This seemingly perfect celebrity marriage lasted three years. Actress Kaley Cuoco had her second divorce, but at least it was a friendlier breakup than the first one with Ryan Sweeting. Each of the two stars will keep their own assets and they will make a clean break. Kaley Cuoco did stop following her ex on Instagram on the very day they formalized the divorce.

The couple met in 2014, got engaged in 2015, had two children (Sailor Gene, 2015, and Lula Rose, 2016), and separated in March 2021… before ever getting married! Of course, as 'The Sun' alleges, they have kept the separation as much a secret as they could, so as not to harm their children too much.

Unexpectedly (for outsiders at least) and after 27 years of marriage, Bill and Melinda Gates ran out of love. "After much thought and a lot of work in our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," they said in a joint statement.

The star of the period drama 'Bridgerton' and the comedian from 'Saturday Night Live' dated for five months in 2021. According to Page Six, they broke up in August because they had too busy schedules and too much distance between them.

It was the first break of the year and the most talked about. Olivia Wilde broke up with Jason Sudeikis at the end of 2020, according to the Daily Mail, but it came to light in early 2021 when she was seen holding hands with Harry Styles. A scoop that only Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have been able to surpass.

Everything seemed to be going so well, and they were slowly but steadily moving towards the altar. But then, suddenly, there were rumors of infidelity on the part of the baseball player and the couple announced a breakup after having been together for four years. Since the break, they have not been seen together again. In fact, JLo moved on and started a new relationship with her ex Ben Affleck. 

This celebrity relationship ended in January, shortly after the actor had been accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, the singer FKA Twigs.

They broke the hearts of thousands of followers after confirming that they were no longer together. They did so in a joint video statement. "I'm always seeing news that we are, that we are not," the rapper said, visibly moved. "The reality is that we are not together, but I love her." While rumors of a possible reconciliation continue, the couple is still officially separated. 

After a marriage with several ups and downs, four children and a life on reality TV, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West put an end to their relationship. They say the rapper's emotional crisis in 2020 pushed Kim over the edge. However, he continues to try and win back her heart, media like Entertainment Tonight, Elle and Page Six report.  

They looked happy and in love, causing many to even consider the possibility of an engagement. However, after a year together, Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck surprisingly announced their breakup. Reportedly, the actress preferred to live outside of the Los Angeles residential area where Ben had a home with his children. Anyway, he did not have much time to mourn about it, because currently the actor is back again with Jennifer Lopez. 

After a happy and active year together, the actress broke the news of her separation from the businessman on Instagram. They did keep in touch, though: in September, Busch sent her an affectionate message of congratulations for her birthday.

Former soccer player Rafael Olarra and 'Alienist' & 'Nine Perfect Strangers' actor Luke Evans were together for almost a year when they decided to break up. As Evans told the UK Times, "It is what it is."

They had a relationship for more than 17 years, from 2004 through 2021, but then, unexpectedly the couple announced their breakup. During the separation process and the division of their properties, the couple continued to live together, which is why many described the breakup as 'strange'. 

This breakup was not amicable at all. In late October, Zayn fell out with the model's mother and, allegedly, the fight got physical. Gigi Hadid then decided to kick him out of her life. They now have to figure out the matter of custody over their daughter Khai.
