Variety magazine revealed the Nielsen ranking for the most popular TV shows from the 2022-23 season. And sports programs are also included in the rankings, proving just how crazy Americans are about the NFL.

But one show took the cake

Meanwhile, Variety suggested that these are the "waning days" of scripted basic cable juggernaut shows, as the top drama show starring Kevin Costner is set to run its last season in November 2024.

#1: NBC Sunday Night Football

Sunday Night is the top slot for football, and any other TV program, drawing in 18.136 million viewers. It has NBC emerging victorious for 2022-2023.

#2: Yellowstone (Paramount Network)

This neo-western drama TV show starring Kevin Costner has become the most viewed series in the United States, drawing in 11.55 million viewers, according to Variety.

#3: NFL Monday Night Football (ESPN)

Americans really can't get enough of football, as proved by the third most-watched program on television, which attracts 10.138 million viewers.

#4: NCIS (CBS)

This classic crime series is the second most-watched scripted show in the United States, with 9.833 million viewers flocking to watch the adventures of the fictional agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

#5: FBI (CBS)

Another classic crime series broadcast by CBS. This one, created by Dick Wolf, is the third most-watched series in the United State,s with 9.524 million viewers.

#6: NFL Thursday Night Football (Amazon)

For the first time, this year’s rankings include a sports program found on a streaming network. Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ is the No. 6 show of the year in total viewers and No. 2 in adults 18-49, drawing in 9.446 million viewers.

#7: Young Sheldon (CBS)

After 'The Big Bang Theory,' the success continues with 'Young Sheldon,' which draws in 9.287 million viewers.

#8: Chicago Fire (NBC)

Another top show produced by Dick Wolf, this one explores the lives of firefighters and paramedics in Chicago. Now on its eleventh season, it attracts an audience of 9.253 million viewers.

#9: Blue Bloods (CBS)

Another crime show! According to Variety, 9.242 million viewers tune into this cop drama starring Tom Selleck.

#10: Ghosts (CBS)

This American sitcom has just been renewed for a third season. Little surprise as it is not only super popular, with 9.085 million viewers, but is also a critical darling, with a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

#11: 60 minutes (CBS)

This classic of American TV journalism continues to withstand the test of time. Although it debuted in 1968, it still draws in 8.805 million viewers, making it the country’s most popular news program.

This Dick Wolf series follows the emergency department doctors and nurses in a fictional hospital in Chicago. The series premiered in 2015, and people still love it: 8.4486 million viewers.

Another crime drama, this show starring Queen Latifah, follows a single mother who uses her extensive skills to help those most in need. And the public loves it. With 8.286 million viewers, it comes in at number 13.

Dick Wolf strikes again, hooking 8.272 million viewers who follow police officers in Chicago as they pursue the city’s major street offenses.

#15: Fire Country (CBS)

Produced by the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer (creator of ‘CSI’), this show centers on the adventures of a convict who redeems himself as a firefighter... 8.252 million viewers are obsessed.
