Gwyneth Paltrow has won one of the most controversial, hilarious, and bizarre lawsuits in recent years in the celebrity world.

Not responsible

A Utah jury has found her not liable for the March 2016 skiing accident for which Terry Sanderson had sued her, eventually seeking more than $3 million.

In the hands of a judge

After more than two hours of deliberating, the jury returned its verdict, finding that it was Terry Sanderson who struck Gwyneth Paltrow from behind while the two were skiing, according to Variety and TMZ.

A dollar with a catch

Finally, it will be the optometrist who will have to pay the amount requested by Gwyneth Paltrow to compensate for the damages caused to her person: one dollar.

Well, to that dollar must be added the fees of the lawyers of the Oscar-winning actress, which will be a considerable amount.

"Compromised my integrity"

"I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome, and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case," commented the actress on social media, shortly after the end of the trial.

"I wish you well"

One of the images of the trial was the one left by the actress after hearing the verdict, approaching the plaintiff and whispering something in his ear. Terry Sanderson himself, on leaving the courthouse in Utah, confessed that he told her: "I wish you well."

2019 Complaint

As TMZ reports, the actress and businesswoman was sued in 2019 by Terry Sanderson, a 76-year-old man who accused Gwyneth Paltrow of causing a serious skiing accident.

Events that occurred in 2016

The events occurred in 2016 at Deer Valley Resort, Utah (United States), where the actress and the plaintiff were quietly skiing.

The plaintiff's version

According to TMZ, Terry Sanderson testified in court that he was skiing with five friends and, at one point, Gwyneth Paltrow crashed into him.

Scream, bang and fade to black

"We passed two deceleration signs on the track, I heard a hysterical scream, and then I was hit in the back. That's all I remember," the plaintiff said in court, according to the publication.

The aftermath of the accident

Terry Sanderson notes that the blow, allegedly delivered by the actress, left him with serious injuries: "brain damage and four broken ribs."

A single witness

The trial was also attended by one of the friends who was at Deer Valley Resort with the plaintiff - Craig Ramon, the only witness presented by the plaintiff.

Similar statements

"We were skiing when, all of a sudden, I heard a scream. That scream. Then I looked over and saw a person crash into Terry's back," the witness stated.

Pointing to Gwyneth Paltrow

"He's face down, spread-eagle, with Gwyneth on top of him! She slammed him. Very hard. She hit him directly in the back," he said.

Did she flee the accident?

The matter became complicated, according to the plaintiff, as he points out that the actress fled after the accident. He said she did not say a word following the smash and moved away shortly after getting up - eventually 'bolting' down Bandana Mountain.

False report?

Not only that, Terry Anderson notes that the instructor riding with Gwyneth Paltrow accused him of causing the accident and signing a false report at the ski resort, where he blamed the plaintiff for causing the crash, as TMZ notes.

Asking for $3.1 million

Terry Anderson, originally, filed a lawsuit seeking $3.1 million in damages from Gwyneth Paltrow.

The judge intervened

However, the judge ruled that Terry Anderson is not entitled to punitive damages and has limited his request for damages to $300,000.

Counterclaim of 1 dollar

For her part, the actress filed a counterclaim, a month later, asking Terry Anderson for a dollar, accusing him of causing the accident and citing the resort report as evidence.
