Two new biopsies for Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman shocked his fans and friends when he announced in early April 2023 that he had to undergo two biopsies on his nose. It wasn't the first time that the Australian actor would be checked for cancerous cells.

Skin cancer?

"Hey, guys. So, I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever," said the actor in an Instagram video. He had a band-aid on the part of his skin where the tissue had been removed.

Then came the results

About a week later, the 54-year-old actor was able to give an update about his health situation.

His biopsies were negative

Thankfully, all was good news. The actor posted on his Instagram stories "MY BIOPSIES CAME BACK ... NEGATIVE!!!"

Speaking without taboos

Hugh Jackman has always been very open about his health situation and the threat of cancer in his life.

A speaker for millions

Aware of the powerful voice he has due to his privileged position, he does not hesitate to use it to warn millions of people of the importance of protecting their skin.

Priceless prevention work

The Australian takes the opportunity to try and prevent skin cancer among all the people he reaches.

Basal cell carcinomas

"I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before," he said in his video. "I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be."

Reminding people to put on sunscreen

"And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy," he said in his video.

A tan 'is just not worth it'

"Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all. Please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me," he warned.

Six interventions since 2013

There are six occasions on which, so far, Hugh Jackman had to undergo surgery to treat skin cancer that has haunted him since 2013.

Regular checkups

He recommends regular check-ups to promote early detection of any skin complications.

Normalizing the disease

The actor never made a secret of his skin cancer. He has used his example to raise awareness about it for whoever wants to listen to him. No matter how famous you are, skin cancer can happen to anyone.

The most common type of skin cancer

Basal cell carcinoma suffered by Hugh Jackman is the most common form of skin cancer.

No, 'Logan' is not immortal

The last time the actor underwent surgery was in 2017 when six basal cell carcinomas were removed. The announcement coincided with the premiere of the film 'Logan.' At that time, too, Jackman told his followers about the cancer in a video.

Raising awareness since 2015

Two years earlier, in May 2015, the Australian had announced that in the previous two years, he had suffered four types of skin cancer: three located on the nose and a fourth on the shoulder.

His wife urged him to see a doctor in 2013

The actor has always praised Deborra-Lee Furness, his wife, for being the one who noticed his first cancer and encouraging the actor to go to the doctor for a check-up in 2013.

Reviews every three months

Since then, Hugh Jackman goes to the specialist every three months for routine check-ups. It helped the doctors find possible cancer cells and remove them before the disease can spread.
