Claudia Conway's audition for American Idol: see how it went
Claudia Conway took a risk at her audition for 'American Idol'. She sang two tracks by great stars: Rihanna ('Love on the Brain') and Adele ('When we were Young'). The 16-year-old was also incredibly nervous, which made it even harder. Katy Perry asked her: "Are you okay?" And she said: "No, but yes, I'm fine."
The performance was worthy of getting the approval and the 'Yes' from Katy Perry and Lionel Richie: enough to get the precious Golden Ticket to Hollywood.
Claudia shared the joy of passing the audition with her father George, who was in the studio, and with her mother Kellyanne, who made a live connection to tell her how proud she was. The Conway family has been in the news for their public disagreements about President Donald Trump. Kellyanne Conway was his Senior Counselor, while her husband George and daughter Claudia are vocal Trump critics. The dynamic of this family has always been interesting, to say the least.
The daughter of Trump's former advisor appears to have outgrown social media and petty interactions with her polemic parents. The teen's next challenge is to conquer 'American Idol.' It will be interesting to see how far she gets in Hollywood.
The 16-year-old Claudia Conway auditioned for the current season of 'American Idol' in November. After recording it, she announced her audition to the more than 1.7 million followers of her Tik Tok profile. "I did an audition and they will broadcast it on Sunday, 14 February," the young influencer said. She was not allowed to give any information about the result of the audition.
Almost three months later, with a completely different look (she has gone from blonde to brunette), Claudia Conway and the rest of the America could see her song and Golden Ticket on TV.
Claudia, who auditioned in 70s' style leather trousers and a small top, emphasized that it was not just a whim or a PR campaign, but real and serious pursuit. "Everyone thinks this is a marketing gimmick but no, music is my passion. I've been singing all my life," she said.
"I grew up in musical theatre. Music is one of the pillars of my life and I wouldn't be here without it," she added. And that seems true: Claudia Conway has commented several times on social media that her dream is to be a professional singer and make a splash in the world of music.
Before the outcome of the audition was known, Katy Perry had already commented on Claudia Conway's participation in 'American Idol'. She had filmed herself with Claudia during the audition shoot and posted it on Instagram. "Claudia just sang for 'American Idol,'" she says to the camera, right before turning the lens and showing Claudia Conway, laughing out loud, next to her.
Despite the laughs, Katy Perry will show her demanding side as a judge, as she has been doing since she took the reign. For this audition, both Katy Perry and Lionel Richie decide that Claudia Conway could continue in the talent show.
But how did a 16-year-old girl become such a social media phenomenon? Easy. Claudia's mother is Kellyanne Conway, one of Donald Trump's top advisors during his term in office. Meanwhile, her father George is the founder of 'The Lincoln Project'. Two very outspoken people.
Claudia Conway became world famous in the summer of 2020 when her mother Kellyanne resigned her position in the Trump Administration because of fierce criticism from her own, ideologically opposed daughter.
"You know life isn't fair when you wake up to your own mother talking on behalf of a homophobe and a rapist", the young woman said on Twitter, where she has more than 500,000 followers. Claudia Conway also tol her followers that her mother's work "has ruined my life."
In fact, Claudia Conway was one of the most active TikTok'ers in the election campaign against Donald Trump. One of the most tense moments was when the president and her mother tested positive for coronavirus and the teen asked her supporters to wear a mask "and don't listen to our stupid president."
The heaviest family bombshell came when the young woman publicly and notoriously asked for legal emancipation from her parents. She said she had suffered "years of abuse and trauma."
The teen acknowledged that she'd had mental health problems and even made an appeal to break stigmas on mental illness with a shout out to the Suicide Prevention Helpline.
It was this confession that led Kellyanne Conway to resign from her position and focus on Claudia and her three other children. At that point, Claudia's messages began to change and she even called her mother "the strongest person I know and 100% feminist." She showed her followers that everyone has the right to a second chance.
The latest family controversy also came from social media. A slip of the tongue, a miscalculation, or who knows what, led Kellyanne Conway to have a picture of her daughter without clothes on her Twitter fleet. Claudia is now 16 years old and she was fuming with rage.
After the shock of the post had worn off, Claudia Conway apologized to her mother, assuring her that she would "never post anything that would intentionally hurt me." Now, in the 'American Idol' audition, we could see that she and her mom were very close. They've probably been watching the first episode together.
