The divorce of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
It's official: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have filed their divorce. TMZ reported on Friday February 19 that Kardashian had filed the papers and that the separation is "as amicable as a divorce can be."
According to a source of TMZ, "Kim is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 4 kids." It also appears that "Kanye is fine with the joint custody arrangement" and that the duo is "committed to co-parenting together."
Followers had first raised alarms about the famous couple when Kim Kardashian's husband did not appear in any of her social media post during the 2020 holidays. Where did Kanye West go? As it seems, the rapper has been alone at his Wyoming ranch, where he's been staying since Kim K's 40th birthday in October.
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian stayed in Los Angeles, taking care of her four children and trying to continue a normal life - as far as that's possible for a Kardashian. Allegedly, the socialite has hired the famous celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser in order to reach a divorce agreement with Kanye West.
Her most important goal: to keep the house in Calabasas (Los Angeles) and continue to raise her children there.
Now, TMZ reports that the divorce agreement is coming along nicely: "There's a prenup and we're told neither party is contesting it. In fact, our sources say they are already far along in reaching a property settlement agreement."
Despite the seemingly smooth proceedings, Kim Kardashian has indicated that the divorce is very hard for her. "Although Kim and Kanye have been separated for months, it was still emotional for Kim to actually file for divorce," a source told People magazine.
The couple have four children together, and Kim Kardashian is reportedly 'disappointed' that they could not make it work. "There is no drama between Kim and Kanye," People cites the anonymous insider. "Kim is mostly just disappointed that they couldn't figure out how to stay married."
Tellingly, the source adds: "It takes two people to create a happy marriage" - which implies that Kim Kardashian mostly blames Kanye West for dropping the ball. People's report is in line with earlier suggestions by 'PageSix' that Kim Kardashian would be tired of her husband's eccentricities, his presidential ambitions, and his slip-ups in the media.
A couple since June 2012 and married since May 2014, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West seem to blame each other for the breakup. From the side of Kanye West, 'Page Six' has reported that the rapper would be fed up with the 'Kardashian way of life.'
Once the divorce is through, what are Kim Kardashian's plans? First of all, she'll be taking care of her children: North, Psalm, Chicago, and Saint. Custody will be shared with Kanye West, though, and he will have plenty of time to spend with all of them.
In addition, Kim Kardashian will continue to attend to her businesses as an entrepreneur and influencer. And what's more, she intends to pursue a career in law.
With only 40 years of age, Kim Kardashian has now filed her third divorce. The first two were with Damon Thomas and Kris Humphries.
Kim Kardashian got married for the first time when she was 19 years old. Between 2000 and 2003, Kim Kardashian was with music producer Damon Thomas. Ten years older than her, he allegedly was a "controlling" husband according to their 2003 divorce papers. The New York Post adds to the story, however, that Kim Kardashian may have cheated on Thomas.
In 2007, an infamous home video of Kim K and her ex-boyfriend Ray J appeared on social media. It's one of the most watched videos in the history of adult film, and it made Kim K one of the best known celebrities in the world. Rumor has it that the tape made her 5 million dollars and that it was her mother Kris Jenner who organized the whole thing.
Around the time the video was leaked, the Kardashian family started shooting their reality show: 'Keeping up with the Kardashians.' The show has been going strong until into the 2020s and it has generated hundreds of millions of dollars.
In 2011, Kim Kardashian married basketball player Kris Humphries. The marriage lasted for 72 days. Kris remained a part of the reality show though.
The third true love in Kim Kardashian's life was Kanye West. They started dating in 2012 and got married in 2014.
Even though it was published in 2007, Kim Kardashian is still reaping the benefits of her famous home video. It has been the most watched video year after year for more than a decade. Kim K herself has been one of the most googled persons in the world since 2007.
Financial media estimate that Kim Kardashian made 200 million dollars for 20% of her cosmetics company KKW when she sold it to Coty in 2020. Her divorce from Kanye West will therefore not only be among the most followed but also the most expensive of our time.
