Nominations for the 2022 Oscars: Who's in the running and who got snubbed?

The 2022 Oscar nominations are causing quite the stir, and the awards haven't even been given out yet! Among the surprises of the nominations are this couple: Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. For the fourth time in the Academy Awards' history, two stars from the same couple are nominated at the same time.

Javier Bardem has been nominated for his role in 'Being the Ricardos,' while Penélope Cruz got her nomination for 'Madres Paralelas' (Parellel Mothers). If they both win, it would be their second: Bardem previously won an Oscar for 'No Country for Old Men' and Cruz for 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona'.

The big favorite for the 94th Academy Awards is 'The Power of the Dog.' The winner of a Golden Globe for Best Film, this western has received twelve Oscar nominations and aims to win at least half of them.

Next in line is 'Dune,' which received ten nominations. Strangely enough, director by Denis Villeneuve did not get a nomination for his work.

Two leading actresses who seemed safe among bookmakers did not get a nomination. They are Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Caitriona Balfe (Belfast).

Nor will a Jared Leto be eligible for his second Oscar. The actor, who won a first Academy Award in 2014 for his role in 'Dallas Buyers Club,' got both praise and scorn for his performance as Paolo in 'House of Gucci.' While the Oscar is not coming his way, Leto may get picked for the 'anti-award': a Razzie.
