The most anticipated red carpet of the year

The Oscars are not just about movies, you know: they are also a big event for fashion lovers. Their red carpet is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated of the most talked about of the year. We have the same enthusiasm as Stephanie Hsu (in Valentino), to present you with the most successful fashion moments of the 95th Academy Awards red carpet... And, alas, the most disappointing.

Jessica Chastain

Let's open the list with the beautiful Jessica Chastain, winner of the statuette in 2021. She maintained her Old Hollywood allure with her hairstyle and her Gucci sweetheart neckline - ensuring crystals and a train added a bit of grandeur. We would like to see her dare more. Rating: 7/10.

Jeanne Moore and Brendan Fraser

At these Oscars, many women opted for the princess look, with a wide and fluffy skirt. The model chosen by Jeanne Moore, unlike many that were seen on the night, at least had an interesting color. Rating: 6/10
Brendan Fraser, on the other hand, veered toward a more sober and elegant outfit by Giorgio Armani. For him, an 8/10.

Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Connelly went anything but puffy skirt in this sleek number. You can never go wrong with black, and she looks chic in her dress which boasts rhinestone detail on a really distinctive neckline. The whole thing is signed by Louis Vuitton.
Rating: 9/10.

Andie MacDowell

Andie MacDowell also succumbed to black, signed in her case by Saint Laurent, becoming the living example that "Elegance and class walk together." Rating: 10/10. Beautiful.

Michelle Yeoh

We don't think there is anyone in the world who can say that a Christian Dior Couture is not a beautiful item of clothing, but, forgive us, this one by Michelle Yeoh, while beautiful, leaves wanting. Maybe it's the color, but, could she have given more?
Rating: 7/10

Janelle Monae

If there's one thing, however, that never bores us, it's a two-piece set, top and skirt. We've seen it before with Zendaya, but Janelle Monae rocked the style this evening with a bright orange skirt: her custom-made Vera Wang.
Rating: 9/10

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana treads the red carpet wrapped in couture Fendi and stunning vintage Cartier signature jewellery. And yet, we aren't blown away. Beautiful yes, but missing the striking element.
Rating: 7/10

Nicole Kidman

The Hollywood actress was one of the most impressive of the evening in this Armani Privé. But to be honest, whatever Nicole Kidman wears looks great on her. We like the detail of the straps (and the high-rise slit) complete with a flower. Rating: 8/10.

Sandra Oh

Giambattista Valli designed this "Greek statue at the Louvre Museum" style dress worn by Sandra Oh. Lots of draping, lots of sleeves, lots of ... everything. Rating: 5/10.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria bet on the plunging neckline of a Zuhair Murad signature gown in one of the evening's most popular colors, white. There is something that doesn't quite hit the mark, but maybe it's the wet effect hairstyle so beloved lately by stars? Rating: 6/10.

Florence Pugh

Valentino is Florence Pugh's favorite fashion house for big events, especially since she adopted a very "Lady Gaga" style. But this look is proof that sometimes even the greats can get it wrong.
Rating: 4/10.

Emily Blunt

But when they don't miss, the greats deliver. They gave us a practically perfect Emily Blunt - a Maison Valentino, but a resounding one. Rating: 10/10.

Lady Gaga

Donatella Versace had presented this number on the catwalk only two days before. So what does Lady Gaga do? She comes, picks it up and takes it to the Oscars. And she does well. Rating: 8/10.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

The Rock relied on Dolce & Gabbana for his iridescent pink jacket tuxedo, perfect for a man who is not afraid to stand out. We don't love the satin effect, but we reward courage. Rating: 6/10.

Jessie Buckley

We find it hard to comment that a star, in our opinion, did not look her best. It would be impossible to save Jessie Buckley's Rodarte dress from ending up in our list of the worst looks in Oscar history...

Sabrina Dhowre Elba and Idris Elba

They are charming and they can't hide it, Sabrina and Idris Elba: she in a soft neon green dress, he in a smart tuxedo with contrasting jacket. Couple rating: 9/10.

Molly Sims

Outfit rating with the feather boa: 3/10;
Outfit rating without the feather boa: 7/10.
Was there really a need?

Ana De Armas

Ana de Armas chose an understated but important Louis Vuitton with a slight train for an evening that saw her shine. Elegant "Happy Birthday Mr. President" style, but without overdoing it.
Rating: 7/10.

Tems

Perhaps this is more suitable for saying that fateful 'yes' at the altar. The veil on the head of this Lever Couture signature outfit is the finishing tough on the bridal number. Rating: 4/10.

Sofia Carson

Actually, if you are looking for inspiration for your wedding dress, there would also be this Giambattista Valli worn by Sofia Carson that might be right for you. Just in case.
Rating: 6/10

Angela Bassett

How can you not love this woman? Angela Bassett brightens up the red carpet, after so much sobriety, with a colorful Moschino model. It may not please everyone but, for us, it was a breath of fresh air. Rating: 8/10.

Cate Blanchett

Dear Cate manages to turn everything she wears into a fashion moment, even a a blouse-skirt outfit. Because, after all, "Fashion is what you buy, style is what you own." To her outfit, by Louis Vuitton, we give an 8/10. To the actress herself, a 10.

Rihanna

Always highly anticipated, whatever the red carpet. Rihanna did not disappoint even in this 95th edition of the Oscars, once again showing off her baby bump amidst the transparency of an Alaïa signature dress. Well, if you are Rihanna, you can. Rating: 7/10

Fan Bingbing

Perhaps the most opulent look on the entire red carpet. This number, signed by Tony Ward, was worn by Chinese actress Fan Bingbing. It was a sparkling gown with a thousand white beads, in stark contrast to the acid green overcoat. If this look is not Hollywood, we don't know what is. Rating: 8/10

Vanessa Hudgens

The actress played it safe when she chose this vintage Chanel, didn't she? Clever girl!
Rating: 8/10

Lenny Kravitz

Although it is not polite to talk about people's ages, will you forgive us if we make an exception for Lenny Kravitz? You may not know, but dear Lenny is 58 years old and yet, it's like he's always 30 years younger. We also pay thanks to the Saint Laurent suit that enhances his rock spirit.
Rated: 9/10

Ludwig Goransson

Why.
Rating: 5/10, but only because there is likely to be something on the back that we did not see. We hope.

Salma Hayek and Pedro Pascal

Salma Hayek knows that red is one of the colors that suits her best, so what does she do? If it glows and is signed by Gucci, even better: it's the Oscars, after all. Rating: 7/10.
Pedro Pascal, on the other hand, went classic and chose a Zegna suit, with a naughty shirt. Rating: 8/10.

Malala Yousafzai

On the red carpets, Malala Yousafzai is rarely ever a miss, and she didn't disappoint at the Oscars 2023 in this very elegant sparkling dress by Ralph Lauren. Rating: 8/10

Harry Shum Jr

A little bit 'just got out the shower'.
Rating: 5/10

Monica Barbaro

The young California actress chose a two-tone model by Elie Saab that plays on the light-dark contrast. Perhaps it was better to play nothing at all?
Rating: 5/10

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson arrived on the red carpet wearing a sparkling Louis Vuitton with sequins. She sparkles, of course, but something is missing.
Rating: 6/10 (however, we are open to debate)

Danai Gurira

This Jason Wu dress looks stunning and she looks divine.
Rating: 9/10

Jamie Lee Curtis

But what can we say to Jamie Lee Curtis? That she looks beautiful in this Dolce and Gabbana or that we love her no matter what she wears?
Rating: 10/10

Hong Chau

We didn't see many Prada designs on the red carpet, but there was this baby pink dress with sequin train/tail effect. Why is it there? We aren't sure, but it is fun, entertaining and mesmerising.
Rating without tail: 7/10
Rating with tail: 8/10

Andrea Riseborough

Delicate and dreamy, this pale pink dress with crochet details worn by Andrea Riseborough was a unique look at this year's Red Carpet. After so many rhinestones, a little romance was a nice hiatus.
Rating: 8/10

Halle Bailey

This light blue Dolce and Gabbana worn by Halle Bailey is perfect for The Little Mermaid. She looks lovely, but a bit too 'Disney Princess' for us.
Rating: 7/10

Melissa McCarthy

Still a princess-style dress, but in Melissa McCarthy's case there are also puffed sleeves and even a high neck. Perhaps a little too much.
Rating: 5/10

Colin Farrell and Henry Tadeusz Farrell

But what about Colin Farrell and his son on the red carpet wearing two matching suits? How can you not give them a 10/10?

Michelle Williams

It took Chanel Haute Couture to make Michelle Williams look even more ethereal in a delicate white gown. It could indeed be another wedding dress inspiration, however. Rating: 7/10.

Austin Butler

Let us mention this elegant number by Saint Laurent. Let us mention Austin Butler...
We give them both an 8/10

Cara Delevingne

If there was ever a gorgeous sight on the Oscars red carpet - Cara Delavingne, with her signature Elie Saab gown, her incredible make-up and her hairstyle was as chic as it gets. One of her best red carpet looks ever. Rating: 10/10

We still appreciate the difficulties

Far beyond our judgments, we truly appreciate and hold these stars in high self-esteem: wearing these beautiful outfits can be a dream, yet it is never easy to get it absolutely right.
