Ezra Miller, replaced as 'The Flash?

The new DC Universe, headed by James Gunn, will see some actors return in their roles as DC's favorite superheroes. However, we already know that Henry Cavill will not be donning the lycra for another stint as Superman, and now it seems, we will also say goodbye to 'The Flash' star, Ezra Miller.

Flash a flop

Variety revealed that the new DCU will see all members of the previous Justice League recast, including Ezra Miller's 'Flash'. The new 2023 film wasn't quite the explosion they hoped at the box office. Yahoo confirmed that the film was actually a hugely disappointing 'flop', raking in just $55 million USD, making it the worst superhero movie premiere to date.

Underlying issues for the actor

Despite the news that the DCU is having a full make-over, one can't help but think Ezra Miller's personal antics could have had some sort of role in the decision. What is the full story of the actor's allegations and was there a reason or solution to his extraordinary behavior off-set?

Ezra Miller has released a statement to Variety

Actor Ezra Miller broke the silence after a rapidly growing list of accusations and even felonies hit the press in the summer of 2023. 'The Flash' actor provided a statement to 'Variety' on Tuesday 15th August to finally say something about their behavior.

Complex mental health issues

Miller said in the statement, “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.”

An apology for their behaviour

“I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life,” the actor continued. But what behaviour is the actor talking about? We look at the surprising stories that have been unearthed.

Ezra Miller charged with burglary

Among other issues, Ezra Miller was charged with felony burglary in Vermont. It was yet another legal issue for 'The Flash' star who's managed to get into trouble for a variety of crimes in different states.

Stealing bottles of liquor from a home

According to a police report, Vermont state police responded to a burglary complaint in Stamford while the homeowners were not present. Allegedly, bottles of alcohol were taken from the residence.

Ezra Miller finally caught?

After police studied surveillance footage and  interviewed witnesses, Ezra Miller was tracked down and charged about a day later.

The Flash is not making a good name for himself

Representatives for Warner Bros did not respond to requests for comment. Clearly, this is not the sort of press they need for the upcoming release of Ezra Miller's solo 'Flash' movie.

Sought by police

That was just the latest incident out of many questionable or criminal acts the actor has committed - with the list mounting up in 2022. Ezra Miller had, in fact, avoided the authorities and had recently ran from the police.

An ugly encounter

One of the stories about 'The Flash' actor regarded a lady called Nadia. She had a consensual sexual relationship with Miller in 2020, according to Variety. They remained on good terms but then, earlier this year, things got ugly.

Aggressive and bewildering behaviour

Nadia had asked Miller not to smoke in her apartment. At this point Miller reportedly turned aggressive and called her 'transphobic'. Miller even called Nadia a 'Nazi' and challenged her by asking who had more relatives die in the holocaust.

Accusations back and forth

When Miller eventually left the house, it seems they had left their jacket behind too. Miller subsequently accused Nadia of stealing their passport and money because, well, they were still in her house.

Ezra Miller's farm of drugs and guns

But that's not all for the actor - not by a long shot. Ezra Miller has also been accused of endangering a mother and her three children by housing them on a farm alongside drugs and guns. Their father claimed to be unable to get them out of the farm.

Taken from Hawaii to Vermont

Rolling Stone reported that Miller met the woman in Hawaii and booked plane tickets for her and her three children to visit the Vermont farm in June. The father of the three children said he just wanted the children back home with him but was worried about what would happen if he confronted Miller.

Unattended guns within reach of infants

He claimed to Rolling Stone that Miller had guns unattended on the farm and, in one instance (as reported by an unnamed neighbor), the one-year-old child of the visiting family put a bullet in its mouth.

Ezra Miller is also accused of harassment in Massachusetts

These events just add to Miller's already long list of shocking behavior in 2022. According to The Daily Beast, on June 15, a child and her mother were granted a temporary harassment prevention order against Miller after an incident in Massachusetts in February.

Swinging a gun, threatening mother and child

The incident involved Miller storming into the home and, according to The Daily Beast, threatening the family and saying 'Talking like that could get you into a really serious situation,' a neighbor reported. The report states he was armed and wearing a bulletproof vest.

Accused of grooming an underage fan

Officials are looking for the star after recent accusations of "grooming and manipulating an underage fan," Marca reports.

Protective order for the fan and his parents

A judge signed the request for a protective order, which says Miller cannot contact the fan's family or be within 100 yards of their residence. The fan, meanwhile, has written on Instagram that he did not feel bothered by the actor's behavior. A hearing for the order has been set for 12th July.

Deleted social media accounts

The authorities have been unable to locate the actor. Instead of turning themselves in, Miller has taunted the police on Instagram and then deleted the account.

All these problems together make a future career for the actor seem very unlikely.

Ezra Miller's future in Hollywood looks bad

Miller made a big breakthrough in the brilliant and dark 2011 drama ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’. Then they became a household name by bagging the role of the Flash in DC’s 'Justice League.' However, after a series of incidents involving the high-profile actor, it's not certain whether they have a future in the industry.

Written warning or red card?

‘Rolling Stone’ magazine reported that executives of Both Warner and DC have been meeting to discuss the star's future, due to their recent disturbing behavior.

Several arrests for violence

On April 19, Miller was arrested and taken into police custody for second-degree assault in Hawaii. Miller had allegedly thrown a chair at a woman, which hit her on the forehead and left a half-inch cut, Rolling Stone reports.

Disorderly conduct in Hawaii

It wasn't the first time. The actor had been also been arrested on March 28, because they had become agitated and abusive in a bar in Hawaii. Rolling Stone cited a police report stating that Miller had "grabbed the microphone from [a] woman singing [karaoke] and later lunged at a man playing darts."

Arrested and released on bail

The 29-year-old movie star was arrested, charged with two counts, and later released on $500 bail. As it turned out, though, he wasn't done for the night yet.

Restraining order against Ezra Miller

According to court records obtained by 'Rolling Stone,' Miller went almost directly from being jailed to committing another violent act. The actor burst into a couple's bedroom that night, threatened them, and stole the woman’s passport and the man’s wallet. The next morning, the couple filed a temporary restraining order against Miller.

Fighting in Iceland

The Hawaii incidents are the latest in a series of dark and troubling reports involving the DC actor. In April 2020, footage of Miller apparently choking a woman at a bar in Iceland circulated on social media.

Ezra Miller's scandal in Iceland

Miller was said to have been escorted from the premises, and ET Canada added that people at the scene claimed that Miller spat on them and staff members.

Young trouble

Ezra Miller had already gotten into trouble as a child. During an interview with MTV, they told they'd been arrested at 10 years old for spray-painting the phrase "stop sweatshop labor" on a Gap store.

Not the perfect student

Miller attended Hudson School in Hoboken, New Jersey, but quit to follow their acting career. At about the same time, Miller starred in the 2008 drama 'Afterschool' and then landed a role on the show 'Californication.' Best known, however, is their role of 'The Flash' in DC's comic book film adaptations.

They are

Ezra Miller identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns when speaking about them-self. In an interview with Playboy magazine, Miller said "I'm trying to find queer beings who understand me as a queer being off the bat."

Ezra Miller's dark side

Over the course of their career, Miller has a history of making unsettling comments. After playing the high school killer Kevin, the actor said in Vogue that they got "gratification" whenever people approached them with hesitation or fear.

In favor of gun rights

During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2018, Miller also defended gun rights. “People need to protect themselves,” the actor said, adding that they don’t have a problem with people owning semi-automatic weapons.

Fighting the Klan

In late January 2022, Miller made a strange (since-deleted) Instagram post threatening violence against a specific small-town chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

Problems on the 'Flash' set

As several media have reported, including 'Rolling Stone,' some disturbing events took place when Ezra Miller started filming the stand-alone 'Flash' film. According to an insider, Miller had frequent meltdowns. They were apparently nonviolent but still torturous.

Replaced with the tv-Flash?

After the series of arrests in Hawaii, some DC fans and critics had previously called for the studio to replace the 'Justice League' star with Grant Gustin, who plays 'The Flash' on the long-running CW show.

What's the future for Ezra Miller?

However, 'The Flash' as a feature film wasn't a hit. If he is to be ousted from the future of the DC Universe, can the actor's damaged image in Hollywood still be rehabilitated to take on further roles on the big screen?
