A tragic, early death

Jason David Frank, the green Power Ranger, passed away in November 2022 at the age of 49.

One of the good guys

The American actor was known for playing the rebellious Green Power Ranger, who then joins as part of the team as the white ranger.

A family tragedy

According to several media, including The Guardian and TMZ, the actor and martial arts master took his own life in a hotel in Texas. His ex-wife was in the hotel room next to his.

The Frank Brothers

Jason David Frank's brother, Erik Frank, also played his brother on the show. He passed away in 2001, in mysterious circumstances, at the age of 29.

Assassinaton attempt

To make things weirder, the original green ranger (Jason David Frank) was nearly killed by a deranged fan at a comic book convention in 2017.

Pure 90s nostalgia

‘Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers’, the first entry into the Power Rangers franchise, ran between 1993 and 1995. It follows a group of teenagers that control giant robots against intergalactic villains.

Made in Japan

The show started out as an American adaptation of the Japanese superhero franchise ‘Super Sentai’, reusing most of its action footage in the early seasons. It didn't take long for them to become a worldwide phenomenon.

Go, go Power Rangers!

The Power Rangers franchise has spun over 20 television shows, three live-action movies, and a vast number of comic books and toys in three decades.

The Power Rangers curse

David Jason Frank is the second main cast member of the original 'Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers' whose life ended in tragedy.

Remembering Thuy Trang

Asian-American actress Thuy Trang, who played the yellow ranger in the original show, was the first victim of the so-called Power Rangers curse.

Every good show needs a good villain

The first and most memorable Power Rangers villain was the evil space witch Rita Repulsa. She sent over the bug-eyed monsters that the Power Rangers had to fight.

From Bandora to Rita to the world

In the first season, Rita was depicted with live-action footage of the Japanese actress Machiko Soga. She played the character of Witch Bandora in one of the original 'Super Sentai' shows.

Rest in peace, Rita Repulsa

Soga revealed in 2005 that she had been dealing with pancreatic cancer for two years. On May 11, 2006, her body was found in her Tokyo home by a visiting friend. She was 68 years old.

Even Zordon was affected

Zordon, the mentor of the Power Rangers, was the voice on the original show by Robert L. Manahan. Sadly, a brain aneurysm took Manahan's life two years after he left the show. The voice actor was 43.

The Youth Center won't be the same without Ernie

The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers would spend their time at the Angel Grove Youth Center, run by Ernie. The actor playing that character, Richard Ganelle, tragically died of a heart attack at age 47 in 2008.

Beyond Mighty Morphin

The so-called Power Rangers curse seems to extend beyond the original generation of the show. Ricardo Medina, who played the red ranger in 'Power Rangers: Wild Force' was sentenced in 2015 for stabbing his roommate.

Another tragic red ranger

New Zealander actor Pua Magasiva, who played the red ranger in 'Power Rangers: Ninja Storm', had a successful career after the show. However, Magasiva apparently took his own life in 2019 after his wife revealed a history of domestic abuse. The actor was 38.

Not part of this list

David Yost, who played the blue ranger in the original show, is luckily not part of this list. However, he got very close to a similar fate...

Leaving the spotlight

The Iowa-born actor is the only original ranger to appear on every episode of 'Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers' before suddenly leaving the franchise in the mid-1990s.

Dealing with depression

In an interview for Entertainment Weekly, Yost revealed that he left because he was harassed on set for being homosexual. It made him depressed and he even thought of taking his own life.

The blue ranger is doing much better

After a nervous breakdown and trying conversion therapy, Yost learned to accept his orientation. He now has a fulfilling life and regularly attends fan conventions.
