Mixing with the big guys

Harry and Meghan have been at their first US fundraiser, held by Kevin Costner at his lavish estate. Shots of the couple have been seen on social media websites with arms around Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry’s parents, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi, and Costner himself. But are these the celebrities that are the closest pals to the pair? Who else is within Harry and Meghan's US support network?

Friends are the family we choose

When it seems like family lets you down, friends can be the family we choose. Even though Meghan and Harry have left "the firm," they are lucky enough to have plenty of friends who love and support them and are around for all sorts of celebrations, social events and help when the going gets tough.

Margot Robbie

Margot met Prince Harry in 2016 at a party, and despite confusing the Prince with Ed Sheeran, the pair hit it off and became friends. This Australian actress gets along great with the couple and has had dinner with the couple on several occasions.

Amal and George Clooney

During Meghan and Harry's time at Frogmore Cottage, George and Amal Clooney lived in the U.K and were regular dinner guests, the couples reportedly frequently enjoyed each other's company. George, in particular, has been quite vocal in the media about defending Meghan.

Jennifer Lopez

J-Lo met Prince Harry and Meghan at the JPMorgan's Miami billionaire's summit and shortly after invited the couple out to dinner. The press went wild when it was revealed that the Duke and Duchess had gone on a double date with Jennifer and her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez. Sources have indicated that the couples plan to get their kids together for a playdate at J-Lo's home in Miami.

Serena Williams

Serena has been friends with Meghan for years and she hasn't been afraid to support the Duchess publicly. Meghan and Serena met at a Super Bowl party in 2010, and on her old blog, Meghan wrote that the pair made a connection while chatting about "good old-fashioned girly stuff." Serena, of course, attended her friend's wedding in 2018 and tweeted her support to Meghan after the interview with Oprah was aired.

Priyanka Chopra

Chopra and Markle met at an Elle magazine dinner in 2016 and hit it off. Priyanka attended the Royal wedding and also visited her friend Meghan shortly after Archie was born.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah is a personal friend of the couple, living in the same neighborhood as them. Oprah attended the couple's wedding and gave baby Archie a membership to her book club. Apparently, Oprah and Meghan's mother even hang out together to do yoga sometimes! Meghan has stated she was banned from speaking to Oprah during her time in the Royal Family, and that the freedom to do so now is "liberating."

Barak and Michelle Obama

Barack and Michelle Obama are said to be good friends with Meghan and Harry. They didn't receive an invite to the Royal wedding, but that was due to the ban on political leaders attending the event. Media have suggested that the Obamas encouraged the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to make a deal with Netflix and create documentaries, films, and other shows, just as the former presidential couple has done.

David and Victoria Beckham

As a soccer fanatic, it is no surprise that Prince Harry is friends with David Beckham. David and Victoria attended the royal wedding and have reportedly gotten closer since. When asked about Harry and Meghan's move to North America, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, David said, "We speak as friends, and that's the most important thing for me...He always needs to be happy."

Adele

Adele was very welcoming to the Sussex family upon their arrival to California in 2020. Vanity Fair reported that Adele lives in the same neighborhood as Harry and Meghan, apparently just five minutes away. The magazine also reported that Adele gave the couple tips on the area and recommended preschools to them.

Beyoncé and Jay Z

We think that Beyoncé had a little crush on the Duke and Duchess long before she met them. In 2019 the Carters won the Brit Award for Best International Group and they gave their acceptance speech in front of Markle's portrait! The two couples finally met at the premiere of 'The Lion King,' where Beyoncé reportedly gushed about how much she loved them, and Jay-Z gave the new parents some parenting advice.

Abigail Spencer

Abigail is a long-time friend of Meghan, even before they started working on 'Suits' together. The actress attended the couple's wedding and helped to plan Meghan's baby shower in New York. When Harry and Meghan took some downtime in Canada during Christmas of 2019, the actress was spotted out on a hike with the couple as well.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster

Actress and singer Katharine McPhee is a school friend of Meghan's. McPhee and husband David Foster reportedly helped the Duke and Duchess find the Canadian hideaway they stayed in over Christmas of 2019. Harry and David are reported to have become close friends as well.

James Corden

James is an old friend of Harry's, which explains why he wasn't just invited to the royal wedding but also to the exclusive night reception. Corden lives in Brentwood, LA, and will surely support his buddy and the family whenever they need it.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

Since leaving 'the firm,' Harry and Meghan are now free to share their political affinities. We know the Bidens are Harry and Meghan's supporters, with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden supporting Harry's charity work since meeting him in 2013. Harry's military past also brought him into contact with President Joe Biden, and at the Invictus Games in Orlando in 2016, Harry sat with the couple. At the same event in 2017 in Toronto, Meghan and Harry sat with the Bidens once again.

Hillary Clinton

Getting to meet the newest Royal baby and cuddle him at Frogmore Cottage is a definite sign of Hillary Clinton and Harry and Meghan's strong friendship. Clinton has also spoken out about the mistreatment of Meghan, calling it "racist and sexist." While the Duke and Duchess were still part of the royal household, they hired Hillary Clinton's previous campaign adviser Sara Latham to be the head of their communications team.

Elton John

Good friends share their private jets with each other, and that is just what Elton John does with Meghan and Harry. Sir Elton lent his private jet so the couple could enjoy a relaxing stay at his home in Nice. Elton and his partner David Furnish also attended the couple's 2018 wedding, and Elton appeared on the debut episode of Meghan's podcast. The podcast is called Archewell Audio, and on the first episode, Elton spoke about the difficulties of 2020.

Misha Nonoo

Meghan and Nisha met when the fashion designer was working on the set of 'Suits'. Her ex-husband is Alexander Gilkes, who is a friend of Harry's. Various media have suggested that she is responsible for the couple getting together; that she is the one that set them up.

Janina Gavankar

Janina is a long-time friend of Meghan's; they've been friends for 17 years. The actress is also a talented photographer; she took the family photo used on the Duke and Duchess' Christmas card in 2019.

Gayle King

Gayle King is a close friend of Meghan's; apart from attending the wedding, she was even invited to Archie's very exclusive baby shower.
Gayle is Oprah's best friend and is said to have helped set up the interview between the Duke and Duchess and Oprah.

Markus Anderson

Markus Anderson has been a friend of Meghan's for many years. He is the director of Soho House in Toronto and was among the exclusive guests lucky enough to attend Meghan's New York baby shower.

Izzy May

Izzy May, the UK publicist for David Beckham, is a very close friend of Meghan's. At the royal wedding, she sat in a position of high esteem, in the second row right behind Serena Williams, Oprah, and the Clooneys. Izzy reportedly is one of Archie's godparents.

Benita Litt

Benita Litt is a former entertainment lawyer and Meghan's dear friend. Benita chose Meghan to be the godmother to her daughters Rylan and Remi. The children were also bridesmaids at Meghan and Harry's wedding.
