The most destructive fires in LA's history

On Jan. 7, a string of fires, fueled by intense winds, began wreaking havoc on Los Angeles County. Though the flames still burn out of control, it has already been declared the most destructive to have ever hit the city of Los Angeles.

Many celebrities have lost their homes

As of Thursday morning, an estimated 2,000 structures have already been destroyed by the flames, including many celebrity homes. In particular, the fire burning in Pacific Palisades, the neighborhood many of Hollywood's rich and famous call home, has ruthlessly consumed the abodes of A-listers and forced others to flee.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton posted a video on Instagram of ABC News footage showing the remains of her beachfront Malibu home. "It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London," she wrote, refering to her kids.

Overwhelming loss

“Seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience," she wrote. “While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto gratitude that my family is safe.”

James Woods

The 77-year-old actor broke down in tears while speaking to CNN about what it was like to lose his Pacific Palisades home. “One day you’re swimming in the pool, and the next day it’s all gone,” Woods said. He also talked about helping his 94-year-old neighbor with dementia get to safety before the flames hit. “There was so much chaos; it was like an inferno. Every house was on fire around us.”

Anger

After his initial shock, the actor turned to anger. On X, he blamed the LA Fire Chief for prioritizing diversity over refilling the water reservoirs, which started to run dry amid the fires. He also posted about LA Mayor Karen Bass cutting fire department funding by $17.6 million months before the flames.

Adam Brody and Leighton Meester

The A-list couple lost their $6.5 million home in the fire, according to Page Six. The couple has not commented, but photos of their home show it burned to a crisp.

Ricki Lake

The talk show host seemed shocked when she announced what happened to her home. "It’s all gone. I can’t believe I am typing these words,” she posted on Instagram. “This loss is immeasurable. It’s the spot where we got married three years ago. I grieve along with all of those suffering during this apocalyptic event."

Her dream home

She also shared images of her dream home during happier times. "This description ‘dream home’ doesn’t suffice. It was our heaven on earth. The place where we planned to grow old together. We never took our heavenly spot on the bluff overlooking our beloved Malibu for granted, not even for one second. I shared our sunset views almost daily with all of you," she continued.

Billy Crystal

The actor told People that he and his family had also lost what had been their home since 1979. "Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing. We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy… We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love.”

Mandy Moore

The iconic singer and actress took to social media to share that her home in Altadena was destroyed in the Eaton fire in North Los Angeles. She said she was grateful that her family and pets made it out safe. At least five people have died in that fire.

‘I’m in shock and feeling numb’

“Honestly, I’m in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family,” she posted alongside images of her beloved neighborhood in flames. “My children’s school is gone. Our favorite restaurants, leveled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken, but we will be here to rebuild together.”

Diane Warren

The award-winning songwriter, known for smash hits like ‘Rhythm of the Night,’ ‘If I Could Turn Back Time,’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,’ posted on Instagram that it also looked like she lost her beach house in the fire. She said she had owned the house for almost 30 years.

Denise Crosby

The ‘Star Trek’ actress posted on X that her home was also a victim. "Yesterday morning I had a beautiful Spanish cottage that gave me endless joy, where I met my husband and raised my son, the only house I’ve ever owned, with fruit trees I grew, with a garden of native plants. Now, ashes. I am heartbroken."

Melissa Rivers
