Movie stars who regret taking off their clothes on set

Every Hollywood actor can name a movie or TV performance that they wish they hadn't done. It's especially awkward when that performance is an intimate scene. Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek confessed recently on the podcast 'Armchair Expert' that she'd had "a really hard time" when shooting a racy scene in the movie 'Desperado' (1995).

It was "demanded by the studio when they saw the chemistry" between Hayek and her co-star Antonio Banderas. She agreed to do it, but it was her first intimate scene and she was terrified. "I was not letting go of the towel," Hayek recalled. "They would try to make me laugh and things and take it off for two seconds but I'd start crying again."

Everyone remembers the famous scene where Jack paints Rose "as one of his French girls" in 'Titanic'. The actress declared years later that she wished she hadn't "shown so much flesh" in that scene.

But, she added, "I was young and I felt I had things to prove." Winslet has stripped several times since, but it's this scene from 'Titanic' that she hates the most. To this day, many fans come up to her to get a signature on the picture of her undressed on the Titanic. "It terrifies me," she says. "These are the only photos I don't sign."

Ben Stiller stripped in 'Along Came Polly' (2004) because he didn't know actors could ask for body doubles for such scenes. Already a star, Stiller told the director that he was uncomfortable with the scene. The director said he would cut the scene if it didn't make him laugh. Obviously, it must have made him laugh because he kept it in.

The legendary scene in which Sharon Stone crosses her legs while being questioned by the police in 'Basic Instinct' was not made with the actress's consent, she later argued. Director Paul Verhoeven deceived Stone, she claims, asking her to take off her underwear for lighting reasons.

Verhoeven himself maintains that the whole scene was in the script. When she saw the result for the first time, Stone reportedly slapped the director. Her pleas to have the shot removed were all in vain. And that's how this scene became Hollywood history.

Some intimate scenes in the series 'Big Little Lies', of which the actress is a co-producer, were particularly hard for Nicole Kidman. And not just because she appears in them without clothes but also because her character is mistreated in the series.

Sometimes the scenes with Alexander Skarsgard became violent, she says. "I couldn't get up. I didn't want to get up. And I remember that Jean-Marc Vallée (the director) came up to me and put a towel around me between shots because I was completely humiliated, devastated, and angry."

Portman has always been very careful not to take her clothes off in front of the camera, She has often used doubles in such scenes. However, in the short film 'Hotel Chevalier' she did one intimate scene herself.

"I'm sorry I didn't listen to my intuition," she says now. "I'm going to rely more on my hunches from now on. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is say no."

Emilia Clarke said she would not take her clothes off again after one instance in season 3 of 'Game of Thrones'. The actress was 22 years old when she was cast as Daenerys in the series.

She appeared without clothes in the very first scene. "I was there on the set, n a k e d, surrounded by people, and I didn't know what they expected from me or what they wanted," she recalls. Four seasons later, she requested to wear more clothes in her scenes, but the producers pressured her by saying: "You can't disappoint your fans."

The actor confessed to 'The Sun' that "a part of me can't believe I actually made those movies." He was talking about 'Fifty Shades of Grey', where he claims not to have been comfortable with his most intimate scenes.

'Passengers' is a science fiction adventure starring a young Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. It has no shortage of intimate scenes. For the actress they were not easy and she had to drink to relax. "I got drunk, but this led to more anxiety because it was going to be the first time I kissed a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in the stomach."

Anyone who has seen 'Twilight' cannot name a scene where Jacob has his T-shirt on. The actor, Taylor Lautner, confessed that if he could choose, he would not get undressed again in a movie. "But I guess that's not very realistic," he added. "I'll certainly ask not to do it." The actor says he doesn't want to be seen "as a piece of meat. I don't want to be known as a body."

The actress from 'Downton Abbey' and 'Black Mirror' pulled up her shirt in a scene from 'Albatross' in which she had to prove her age. When promoting the film, she admitted that the director took advantage of her inexperience: "I didn't know I could say no. I had no idea what was going to happen and thought they were going to film me from behind. It's something I'll never do again".

Although the movies from 'Fifty Shades of Grey' were very mild compared to the books, Dakota Johnson still became uncomfortable with them. She told 'Time' that the scene in which she was tied up became traumatic for her.

"It was not a sensual or pleasant atmosphere. It was very hot and everything was sweaty and uncomfortable." It seemed to last forever. To top it off, she confessed later, her film partner Jamie Dornan didn't like her very much.

Keira Knightley has stripped several times on screen but she really does not want to do it again. The reason is that she doesn't like the life those images tend to lead, as many of them "end up on porn-sites". Being a mother has also led her to see things differently.

Eva Green says she can't understand why she even managed to take her clothes off in movies, as she's a very shy person. She began to do it at age 23 in the film 'Dreamers,' and she continued to show her skin in '300' and 'Sin city 2'. But she grew tired of it. On the set of 'Casino Royale', the actress confronted the director (Martin Campbell) and dictated to him which parts of her body could be shown.

Rachel Bilson said in an interview for 'Playboy' that she felt uncomfortable during the filming of 'The Last Kiss'. "The film was rated 18+ and they like to put nudity wherever possible, but I strongly believe it could have been avoided."

After her intimate scenes in 'My Summer of Love' and 'Henry VIII', the actress no longer wants to do them, she told The Inquisitr: "I’m not 22 anymore. And actually, it’s not so much a moral thing as a question"

She continued "Does it serve the film or is it gratuitous? Because I don’t think it’s necessary most of the time. Similarly, playing violent or racist characters would be hard for me now"

Halle Berry says she doesn't think getting undressed is necessary. "I think you can make movies without showing anything. It's a decision you make."

About her Oscar-winning role in 'Monster's Ball', she adds: "It was a bold choice on my part. It was written in the script and when I was offered the role, I was told: 'That's the way this girl is and it's non-negotiable that the scene be eliminated.'" So she did it and made a memorable scene with Billy Bob Thornton.

Helen Mirren was a pioneer of the intimate scene and became known for them. Some may remember her in her role of Caesonia in 'Caligola'. "I did those scenes because I didn't want to be a stiff," she told WhatCulture. "Now... I have a reputation for doing them."

Casey Wilson regrets doing a scene where she's peeing in the street. The worst part of it? She was the scriptwriter herself. Having done 200 hours of community service for it after the shoot, she said, "Why did we write this?"

During an episode of his series on FOX, 'Hotel Hell', the famous chef got undressed before taking a shower while continuing to complain about the service in the hotel. The Internet went crazy after the scene was broadcast, and it caused the chef/actor to regret his decision.

Although in the first seasons of 'Weeds' it was quite normal to see Mary Louise Parker without clothes, the actress protested against an intimate scene in season 4. She considered it unnecessary to take off her clothes in that scene. "I fought with the director about it and now I'm angry. I knew it would be on the Internet: 'Mary-Louise shows her big nip***s'. I wish I hadn't done that."

The legendary 'Baywatch' star says she regrets some of the decisions she made in her career. "My children mock me for posing n a k e d. When you pose you don't think that one day you will have children who will see it," she explains. However, Anderson has continued to take off her clothes in several productions.

Anna McGahan gave life to an escort in 'Underbelly' and never recovered from the typecasting. "It was very naive," she says now. "I wasn't able to protect myself from this industry."
