Meet Zaya Wade

Meet Zaya Wade, the trans daughter of NBA player Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union. Still a teenager, and she is slaying the fashion world!

Support from her parents

Her biological dad and step-mom have been incredibly supportive of her since she came out as transgender in 2020. Speaking to Dazed, she said her mom teaches her that "being myself is the best technique out there."

Her family even moved out of Florida for her

In an April 2023 episode of 'Headliners' her dad even said that one of the reasons the family left Florida was because of its government's stance on trans issues. "My family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that's one of the reasons why I don't live there," he said.

Her supermodel debut

At Paris Fashion Week 2023, she made her debut on the catwalk to much fanfare. And that's where her family's proud was on display big time!

Walking for Miu Miu

The 15-year-old at the time went big, walking for the luxury Italian brand Miu Miu. A diehard fan, she also wore the brand head-to-toe for 'Dazed,' the magazine that gave her her first cover.

Here is another look she posted to Instagram, with her athlete dad commenting: "To witness your grace is something... I am proud of you."

Passion for fashion (and for Zaya)

It doesn't hurt that both Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are passionate about fashion themselves, but it was their daughter that gave them the best reason of all to hit up Paris Fashion Week.

A family to dream of

The couple, together since 2009 (and married since 2014), took front-row seats at the show, where they couldn't hide their pride and excitement.

Tears of joy

There was no hiding it either. In an Instagram story, the NBA champ told his followers that he and his wife shed tears of joy during the fashion show.

Her stylist and friend

Her stylist also admitted to having tears in his eyes in a gushing social media post where he says: "Thank you, Zaya, for showing me what it means to believe in yourself."

"Just an icon living"

The Basketball whizz was already hyping up her debut before it happened. On Twitter, he shared a devastatingly cool family pic with the caption: "Just an icon living. Zaya's [Miu Miu] fashion debut."

The hug of a proud father

Unsurprisingly, after the show, Dwayne Wade boasted of his daughter again, posting more pics of the two hugging and emphasizing her incredible debut.

Genderless for Fall/Winter 2023

Since Fall/Winter 2022, Miu Miu has been serving heavy androgeny, bringing genderless fashion to the runways. This year the brand has continued with the non-binary trend, with the clothes avoiding being assigned to either gender.

Congratulations pour in

Needless to say, Zaya Wade's Instagram account was soon flooded with congratulations from well-known faces who applauded her magnificent runway debut.

Nepo Baby?

But, this being the internet, some couldn't help slapping her with the 'Nepo Baby' label. If it wasn't for her famous parents, could she have landed such an amazing gig? Probably not. But whether or not she'll be able to shake off the label will depend on what she does with her career. Here, she's pictured next to Iris Apatow, another famous couple's kid.

Still killin' it in 2024

Indeed, her debut was just the beginning. Her influence as a model and influencer has only been growing.

An LGBTQ activist

"When I Zaya some time to watch TV or read or just sit with my own thoughts, I really can take some time to look within and realize, 'Is there anything toxic or ugly in me or outside that I do not need anymore?'" she told People. "I can go through my process of purging all the disgusting toxicity that is out here and make myself more beautiful through that."
