Actor Mathieu Kassovitz ('Amélie') in serious condition after motorcycle accident

He had a motorcycle accident on the Linas-Montlhéri circuit, 30 km (18 miles) from Paris, on Sunday, September 3rd. Now, actor and director Mathieu Kassovitz, known for movies like 'Amélie,' lies in a Paris hospital in serious condition.

The local government of Essone, where the accident happened, confirmed the events. It emphasized that the co-protagonist of the film 'The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain' had some serious injuries.

Shortly after his hospitalization, the television channel BFMTV reported that, despite the severity of the accident, Mathieu Kassovitz's life was not in danger.

Neither the actor's head nor his vital organs were affected.

BFMTV also reported that the 56-year-old actor/director was training on a motorcycle, learning how to ride the vehicle when the accident happened.

The local Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to clarify the facts. It's interrogating witnesses, including the teacher of the course.

Mathieu Kassovitz became known in 1995 when he directed 'Hate' / 'Hatred' (La Haine), a black and white film that won him the Best Director award at Cannes and also launched the career of actor Vincent Cassel.

However, worldwide fame arrived with the French film 'The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain,' directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet in 2001. It rained awards on the movie, including BAFTAs, and audiences from all over the world went to see it.
