Jacques Audiard's latest film, the musical ‘Emilia Pérez’, won four Golden Globes out of a total of ten nominations in January 2025.

The film by the French director, son of dialogue writer Michel Audiard, won the prestigious Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

Proof that its soundtrack is also pure quality, the film was also honoured with the award for Best Comedy or Musical, and Best Song (‘El Mal’, written by Clément Ducol and Camille).

The most recent accolade was the Best Supporting Actress award for Zoe Saldana. The American-Dominican actress sparkled in the quartet she formed with Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez and Adriana Paz.

Acclaimed for its originality, ‘Emilia Pérez’ depicts the gender reassignment of a Mexican cartel boss on the run and the help he receives from a lawyer to achieve his plans.

Released in August 2024, the film was acclaimed at Cannes, where it won the Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award for the four lead actresses. Now it has won international acclaim!

‘Emilia Pérez will very likely represent France in the Best International Feature Film category at this year's Oscars.

For Ouest-France, which describes the final result as a cinematic ‘UFO’, it was ‘a daring gamble born of Jacques Audiard's boundless creativity’.

‘Just think: a musical about an ultra-violent Mexican drug trafficker who wants to become a woman, starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, shot in a Paris studio’, adds the publication.

Emilia Pérez’ was rewarded at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Globes, but will it also win an Oscar? It would be a well-deserved honour for a film that is just as unique as it is daring.
