The enchanting region of Cornwall, located in southeastern England, was chosen as the setting for several scenes in the series, known for its natural and historical beauty.
One of Cornwall's most notable landmarks is St Michael's Mount. In the series, this impressive island is depicted as the home of the Velaryon family.
Outside the series, St Michael's Mount is the residence of the St Aubyn family and hosts a small local community. The island is a true historical treasure, with a church and a medieval castle dating back to the 12th century, offering visitors rich architectural and cultural experiences.
The battle for the Stepstones, led by Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith), took place in the third episode of the series. The landscapes and battle scenes were filmed on the beaches of Kynance Cove, also in Cornwall.
Located in the heart of Portugal, near the Spanish border, is a small village full of history and charm. The 'House of the Dragon' team chose the majestic Monsanto Castle as one of the settings for the capital of the Seven Kingdoms, King's Landing.
The castle is an impressive medieval structure in the Romanesque style, known for its imposing granite walls that seem to naturally emerge from the surrounding rocks. Its authentic atmosphere and scenic beauty make it perfect for representing the ancient settings of the series.
Not far from Monsanto is Cáceres, Spain, with narrow cobblestone alleys, picturesque squares, and historic buildings. The medieval city provides a genuine and immersive environment, transporting viewers and visitors to a distant era.
Stunning Renaissance palaces and ancient Roman walls highlight the city's long and fascinating history. In the series, is used to portray the setting of King's Landing.
In the first episode, you can recognize the main square of the city, Plaza Mayor. In the photo, where we can see the statue of Francisco Pizarro, the show's producers placed a statue of a dragon.
The coastal city of Lloret de Mar was also featured in some scenes of 'House of The Dragon.' The location is known for its stunning landscapes and crystal-clear waters. Filming took place in the Gardens of Santa Clotilde, an Italian Renaissance-style setting that offers a magnificent view of the sea.
