How to get back into the rhythm

Holidays and vacation outings are often a time of gastronomic excesses and too little exercise. But don't despair. There are tricks for our bodies to recover from the countless toxins accumulated over the holidays.

Get your schedule back

The daily routine is fundamental for the organism of your body. After days of uncontrolled excesses, it is advisable to return to your regular number of daily meals and to eat dinner at 9:00 pm at the latest. In addition, it is recommended not to eat anything for two hours before going to bed.

Zero alcohol

If you want to get over the holiday excesses, you could try not drinking for a month. People hold 'sober Septembers' or 'dry Januaries' for example.

Water cleanses you

If you want to detox your body, water is the best thing for it. Drink much water throughout the day.

Sports

If you were doing sport before the holidays, great. You just have to get back into the swing of things and increase your pace little by little. If you didn't do sport, you can start by walking for 30 minutes and increase the time each day, until you can run for 20 minutes in a row. Then, keep increasing if you want.

Fruit and vegetables

After the storm always comes the calm. After the holidays, there have to be fruits and vegetables. They have healthy proteins, zero fat, and zero cholesterol. Just what you need. It is recommended to take five pieces a day.

Avoid sugary sodas

During the holidays we tend to eat a lot of sweets, so it is better to avoid sugar in our drinks. In general, the World Health Organization recommends restricting sugar consumption to a minimum.

Small portions

Your uncle or mother has been simmering the meat since 07:00 AM so it's juicy and perfect at 8:00 PM. How can you say no? But you better take small portions and don't fill up the plate.

You have to eat fibers

If you've had a bloated stomach and a heavy feeling, you may need to reduce the gases in your stomach. High-fiber foods will help you get a bowel movement so the swelling goes down. An easy recipe for a meal high in fiber is to take any kind of nut with yogurt and cinnamon.

Legumes

If you are getting hungry in your first days of the new routine, you can complete your dishes with some beans or other legumes as a side dish. They will satisfy you and provide you with nutrients without increasing the amount of fat.

Beware of desserts

If you are a faithful dessert lover and always need something sweet to top off your meal, don't punish yourself, but adapt it to your new situation. For example, choose fruit sorbets.

Detox juices

To detoxicate your body, there are two options: a purifying broth or detox juices. Turmeric, ginger, miso or pineapple shouldn't be missing from one or the other. By detoxing, you will increase your defenses, improve circulation and protect your digestive system. Plus, you'll feel great about your detox day.

Limit the sugar

We repeat the message: do not just limit the sugary drinks, but add less sugar to everything. Even then, there will still be a huge proportion of sugar left in your diet.

Purifying foods

The heaviness, discomfort or swelling caused by bad eating habits during the holidays can be relieved by purifying foods that stimulate the liver, kidneys and intestines. You should look for vegetables with bitter flavors - artichokes, asparagus, celery - but also fruits like apple or pear.

Infusions

One of the best ways to get rid of fluids is to drink herbal teas. They will help you reduce the feeling of heaviness, avoid fluid retention and burn fat. Yes, and all that with a cup of tea. Or two.

Better fish than meat

If you are given a choice, and even if it costs a lot, choose fish rather than meat. It's much lighter.

New kinds of breakfast

During the holidays, you may have had everything for breakfast, from sweets to pizza to chocolate churros and more. Well, now it's time for a change. From now on, breakfasts should provide fiber, protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Try skim milk with oatmeal, whole wheat bread, turkey and orange juice, for example.

Go for yoga

A study published in Medicine & Science states that each one-hour yoga session burns more than 500 calories. Plus, yoga will help you regain your concentration and relax. That way you can get back into your habitual rhythm fast and pleasantly.
