In 2021, Jeff Bezos went into space and it rained memes
July 20, 2021. Jeff Bezos was radiating when he returned from his suborbital flight. It was "the best day ever," he said. In reality though, the first manned mission of his Blue Origin company only lasted 10 minutes and 10 seconds. And when it came to space itself, Bezos and his fellow passengers spent about 3 minutes over there before they returned to Earth.
There were 4 passengers on the historic flight: Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark, American aviator Wally Funk (82 years old) and Dutch student Oliver Daemen (18 years old) - the latter became the oldest and the youngest to ever go into space.
It is clear that this planet is too small for the richest man in the world. His view quickly began reaching beyond the stars. And how did us humble Earthlings benefit from the man's adventure?
With a good helping of Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin memes.
For better or for worse, on this journey there were no mutations among the passengers, and no one acquired new powers. That we know of.
"I wanna thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer because you guys paid for all this." Yes, he said it. Maybe he was joking, in a way, but he did say it.
Amazon employees are alleged to get notoriously little time for bathroom and meal breaks. So when they found out the boss wasn't there for the day, this is what they did...
It was impossible not to compare the Blue Origin ship to that of Dr. Evil, the villain of 'Austin Powers 2'
Yes, everyone thought the same. In fact, the staff at Blue Origin must have noticed this great little detail when they were building the ship.
Thousands of people from around the world compared Jeff Bezos to Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movie.
...Jeff Bezos is Dr. Evil in real life."
Dr. Evil wants 1 billion dollars, Jeff Bezos has 1 billion dollars.
Dr. Evil has a moon base. Jeff Bezos wants a moon base.
Dr. Evil has a spaceship in the shape of a male body part. Jeff Bezos has too.
It's him.
Going into space is cool. Doing it with your brother is really cool. Let them compare you with the Evil Doctor and Mini Me, who cares.
For a lot of spectators, it was hilarious that Jeff Bezos and his fellow passengers spent less time in space than the Russian dog Laika in 1957.
The New Shepard took off and landed at the Van Horn space base in Texas. Obviously, many residents in the area did not miss the opportunity to see the show up close.
Over 185,000 people signed a petition to stop Jeff Bezos from returning to earth.
...but don't want anyone to forget what kind of person you are..."
It was a good day for social media.
