It turns out that things got too rough to repair after 19 years of marriage, and despite appearances, the couple hasn't been together for the last seven years.

Even though they stopped living together and started living different lives, the couple had been lying that they were still together in public. Why? Jada told NBC that they just weren’t ready to discuss it in front of the world. “We were still trying to figure out between the two of us, how to be in partnership.”

Jada told NBC News that the famous relationship fell apart for many reasons. “By the time we got to 2016, we were exhausted with trying. We were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we think the other person should be.”

In the NBC interview, Jada said that they didn’t get a legal divorce because she made a promise that they would try to work through whatever happened. “I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she said.

This revelation puts a whole new spin on the infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. Before Will slapped Chris Rock, he shouted "get my wife's name out of your mother *** mouth," but Jada wasn't even really his wife!?

Chris Rock had said that the 'Gotham' actress should be playing 'G.I. Jane' given her lack of hair. Referring to Pinkett Smith's shaved hairdo, Rock said: "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2." It was an insensitive joke, as the actress rocks her bald head due to an alopecia diagnosis, which she shared with the public in 2018.

Ahead of her memoir coming out, Jada told PEOPLE that she and Chris have some more history. First of all, they had a bit of a row over the 2016 Oscars because she had pressured him to not host the awards ceremony because of the lack of black people nominated.

She also revealed that he once asked her out. “Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I'd love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

Later, while accepting his Oscar for Best Actor, Will Smith apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees. More strikingly, he said that "Art imitates life," referring to his role as Venus and Serena Williams's father in 'King Richard.' "I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things."

Finally breaking her silence on the drama, Jada told People she thought the whole thing "was a skit" until Will walked back to his seat. "I was like, ‘There's no way. There's no way that Will hit him...' I was in as much of a fog as anybody else in that room that night."

Jada said that it's been a long journey for her to figure out a way to support Will while letting him do his own thing. “For a lot of years I've taken on a lot of responsibility thinking that I'm responsible for a lot of things that just aren't my responsibility. Part of my codependency,” she said.

Parallel to all this success, Will Smith formed a family with Jada Pinkett Smith, to whom he has been married since 1997. Will Smith's family, however, is not typical....they prefer not to follow traditional social rules.

The union with Jada followed the actor's divorce from Sheree Zampino, his former wife and mother of his eldest son, William Carroll Smith III, better known as Trey Smith.

With Jada, Will has two other children: Jaden Christopher Syre (pictured), born in 1998, and Willow Reign, born in 2000.

Will Smith revealed in a 2021 interview with GQ magazine that he and Jada Pinkett Smith were in an open relationship. But Jada's new statement makes us wonder if that was a cover for full-blown separation?

According to the actor, they opted for monogamy for most of the relationship, but Jada had never really believed in a conventional marriage.

If we go back to July 2020, we can find evidence of Jada's feelings about monogamy. American rapper August Alsina, a friend of Jaden Smith, assured, during the 'Breakfast Club' program that, in the past, he had an affair with his friend's mother.

The rapper even said that he had Will Smith's blessing. At first, Jada denied August's statement, saying that it wasn't true. However, just a few days later, the truth came out.

On her show, the 'Red Table Talk', Jada said in front of Will that she actually had hooked up with August Alsina four years prior. However, now we know that the rendevous would have occurred after she and Will had split.

The actress claimed that her marriage with Will Smith at that time was in crisis and was about to fall apart.

After the controversy over Jada Pinkett Smith's infidelity, her daughter Willow voiced her opinion regarding the affair. Willow said she was proud of her parents "I’m so proud of you, to be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, OK that was the real deal."

In 2011, it was rumored that the actress had a relationship with singer Marc Anthony, a close friend of her and Will Smith. The protagonists assured that it was just a rumor and totally false.

During the filming of the film 'Focus' (2015), rumors surfaced that Will Smith was cheating on Jada with Margot Robbie due to their friendly relationship. However, Will claimed there was nothing to the rumors.

The matriarch of the Smith family, Jada, revealed on the show 'Red Table Talk' that she has had addiction problems with several substances, but mainly alcohol.

"Drinking red wine for me was like drinking glasses of water" the actress said. "I could drink almost anybody under the table. Will specifically. Will's a lightweight. I used to be a hard one to keep up with." Jada has since given up drinking as addiction run in the family, and she lost her father to an overdose.

'Red Table Talk' is a Facebook talk show hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, her mother, Adrienne Benfield-Norris, and Willow Smith.

At age 13, Willow Smith generated a great controversy by appearing in a photograph with actor and childhood friend, Moises Arias (pictured), then 20 years old.

In the photo, he appears shirtless with her lying beside him on a bed. Although the image looks quite innocent, Arias was forced to delete it from his Instagram account due to strong criticism.

As for Jaden Smith, the middle child, style is the word that defines him. It is common to see him with the most diverse looks, from skirts, headdresses to women's jewellery.

The young man posted a photo on social media where he appears kissing rapper Lil B, as well as writing about rapper Tyler, the Creator. "Tyler the Creator is the best friend in the world and I love him so much. And I want to tell you guys something… Tyler doesn't want to say, but Tyler is my boyfriend," he told fans.

Trey Smith is Will Smith's first child. His mother is Sheree Zampino, to whom the actor was married from 1992 to 1995. He is the most unknown and discreet of the Smith siblings.
