What is the most expensive handbag in the world?
Think the Gucci Horsebit, the Hermès Birkin, or the Louis Vuitton Twist MM might be the world’s most expensive handbag that you can buy in the stores? Not quite — there’s one that tops them all... and it just came out.
This record-breaking handbag is the Handcrafted 1969 Golden Bag, signed by Rabanne, with a whopping price tag of €250,000 (around $265,000 USD).
This luxurious Nano Bag, crafted in 18-karat gold, revives the legendary heritage of the fashion house and stands out as a masterpiece. It was debuted in the spring 2025 show in Paris.
The design pays homage to an iconic gold and diamond dress that Paco Rabanne created for French singer Françoise Hardy in 1968.
That unforgettable piece was a long-sleeved dress made from 1,000 gold plates and set with 300 carats of diamonds, showcasing Rabanne’s futuristic artistry.
Combining luxury, tradition, and the forward-thinking design Rabanne is known for, this bag continues to push creative boundaries.
Created in collaboration with Arthus Bertrand, the Handcrafted 1969 Golden Bag took over 100 hours of the highest-level artisanal labor to complete.

Though marketed as “the world’s most expensive bag,” it’s far from the true record-holder—priced well below the $3.8 million dollar handbag that holds the official title.
The actual Guinness World Record title goes to the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond bag, made from 18-karat gold and set with 4,517 diamonds for a total of 381.92 carats.
Still, the Handcrafted 1969 Golden Bag will live on as a timeless jewel and a so-called “most expensive handbag” in the minds of fashion lovers... no harm in a little marketing magic!
