Cassidy's first interview since Liam's death

In early February, the British newspaper The Sun published the first interview with Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne's girlfriend, since the day he died in Buenos Aires at age 31.

The deadly fall

On October 16, 2024, former One Direction member Liam Payne fell to his death from a hotel balcony in the Argentinian capital. A dangerous combination of drugs was found in his body.

She insists it was an accident

Cassidy has insisted that this fall was accidental and not an attempt to take his life.

She was not there with him

In addition, the influencer said that she and Payne each had their own projects, so they could not always be together. Payne remained in Argentina while she went home for personal reasons. It was not the first time they traveled separately.

'If I knew, I would have never left'

The couple was on holiday in the South American country when she had to leave her boyfriend behind. "Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina", she told The Sun.

Needed to leave for personal reasons

Cassidy explained that she had a 'responsibility at home', so she had to go back. "We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur," she added.

Denies rumors of a breakup

The influencer has expressed regret for leaving the singer before his death. However, she explains that there was no fight or breakup.

Heard the news from a friend

Cassidy recounted the moment she heard the news about her boyfriend's painful death. She says she was thankful that she hadn't heard it through social media.

'That moment, it's like blank'

"I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok and one of Liam's friends called me," she told The Sun. "That moment, it's like blank; it's blacked out in my head."

She couldn't believe her boyfriend was dead

"I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumor. Or something that somebody made up just to get views," she said. But then, slowly, she realized the news was real.

Tried to call him

The influencer recalled that she fainted at the moment of hearing the news. "I felt numb. I tried to call him. I called pretty much everybody", she said.

A little glimpse into their relationship

The influencer, who has more than two million followers on Instagram, shared a few words through the app's stories.

"The love of my life"

For one, Cassidy shared the interview via her Instagram account. Then, she explained that it was a small glimpse into her relationship "with the love of her life". Finally, she asked her millions of followers to have empathy.

Did not see it coming

Cassidy explained in the interview that the whole trip to Argentina had been great with Liam. She thought his mental health was fine.

Addiction is unpredictable

However, "with addiction, you just never know when it's going to come out," she added.

Four months after his death, she's still gutted

"It's genuinely insane to me how things can just be taken away from you so quickly in life, you never truly know what tomorrow will bring," she said. "You never know."
