Tension everywhere

Kicking off at 21:00 CET, Manchester City took on Chelsea in an all-English final in Portugal. It was a nail biting game with both teams showing some incredible skill and pace.

Time stood still

As Cheslea were leading 1-0 with a first half goal from Kai Havertz and they spent the rest of the game trying o hold on to that lead. As Aguero was finally brought on for City in the last 15 minutes of the game, tensions soared.

Fans not impressed with Guardiola's line-up

Many fans were shocked to see Aguero wasn't starting; but Sterling started instead, leaving the team with no defensive midfielder.

Not an ideal starting 11

Fans were really unimpressed and, from the outset, had their doubts about the possibility of lifting the trophy.

Super Bowl or Champions League?

Marshmallow opened the final which surprised many in this attempt to make it more of an entertainment event like the 'Super Bowl'.

Manchester United fans

Hoping this were only possible, Manchester United fans took to social media to stress the rivalry they have with both teams in the final.

Werner once again disappointed fans

Werner hasn't exactly been on form in recent months and Chelsea fans were once again left feeling exasperated at his attempt to score for his team.

Time for a siesta

The memes about his ability continued most of the night.

No threat here...

Fans couldn't stop themselves poking fun at the Chelsea forward.

Man of the Match

Some players, however, really stepped up to the mark and world-famous Kanté once again took home man of the match and played an outstanding game for his team.

Reece James tries to shake off his past

Reece James, from Manchester United, gave fans an excuse to laugh at United's expense (the rivalry is strong!).

Excitement for many

The 2020–21 UEFA Champions League knockout phase began on 16 February with the round of 16 and will end on 29 May 2021 with the final at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto where the winners Chelsea were finally decided.

The return of the competition

No one can look at this meme without singing along to the tune of Handel's 'Zadok the Priest'.

3 Things City haven't got

They have never lifted the trophy, Vincent Kompany has long retired and is now a manager in Belgium, and the fans have been known to be a little scarce at times...

And the memes about the fans continue...

Internet posts about the City fans circulate a lot. The team lifted the Premier League Trophy in 2021. Could they also lift the Champions?

... and continue...

Manchester City is indeed a very wealthy club but money can't buy you everything...

Old rivalries

That's right, Manchester United fans, Manchester City made it.

But key players need to step up

In the Premier League, when Manchester City faced Chelsea (and accepted a 2-1 defeat) Aguero tried a cheeky Panenka penalty which was watch by fans in almost slow motion as the Chelsea goalkeeper barely had to move to stop the ball. Shame.

He meant it

It seems as though his vow to win the Champions League could become a reality.

Not a good history for Pep

On 17th April in the FA cup the two teams collided and Chelsea won 1-0. Then on 8th May the managers met again and Chelsea scored two goals, leaving Manchester City the losers with only one.

The forgotten days of football

Both teams are heavily backed with rich owners. Many remember the 'good old days' when football was just football.

Kanté goes viral

There are now even T-Shirts made with the slogan, "70% of the Earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Kanté." It was, quite rightly, an instant hit on social media.

Down on our knees and pray

Chelsea fans are hoping to win the trophy for the second time in the competition's history.

Haaland vs Foden

Borussia Dortmund's striker, Haaland has just been awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Season. He is the man.

A clash of interests

What to watch...?

Goodbye Real Madrid

On 5th May the second leg of the game between Chelsea and Real Madrid ended in tears for the Spanish side as Chelsea ripped through their defence, winning 2-0.

Still the record holders

Despite Real Madrid being knocked out by Chelsea, they have, in the history of the competition won an incredible 13 UEFA Champions League titles.

Bayern not hitting the mark

Not too embarrassing for the German team who were only kicked out at the quarter final stage on aggregate away goals against PSG.

It wasn't to be for the men's team

The BCN women lifted the trophy on the 16th May after winning fair and square against Chelsea. It wasn't to be for the mean's team, however, who were knocked out in the round of 16.

Liverpool also having a tough year

Liverpool have struggled this year with many injuries and team changes. Real Madrid knocked the team out of the competition in the quarter finals.

Werner fallen short of expectations

His goal scoring has been a little wayward this year, but Werner is hoping to perform better in the final, winning Chelsea the title. A video was released of him in training giving evidence that he may not be up to the task...
