What's been going on? 2023 has been marked by a slew of celebrity breakups... even more than usual.

Were these breakups mere coincidences, or was it the effect of Mercury retrograding that caused all this marital carnage? Either way, here's a little recap that will help you get up to date when you're chatting by the coffee machine.

A whopping 27 years they were together, but at the end of the summer of 2023, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced that it was over. Some media have speculated that it was the pandemic lockdown and the actors' strike that put them over the edge after all those years.

The pair split lovingly, though, and will continue to be in touch - if only to support their two grown children, Oscar (23) and Ava (18).

While the divorce was kept quiet for six years, in October, Page 6 reported that the couple had chosen to live lives apart.

The hip-hop duo that had been together since early 2017 and share two children together have officially gone their separate ways. Cardi B announced in December, saying she had been "single for a minute."

While it is unknown what happened with the on-and-off couple, in a more mysterious statement in the days prior to announcing her new single status, Cardi B wrote "I'm tired of protecting peoples feelings...I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST."

In April, Taylor Swift and her boyfriend of six years called it quits. Later, she moved on to her new boo - Travis Kelce.

While the relationship probably broke down in 2022, Shakira's viral revenge track in Jan 2023 made this one of the splits of the year. We will never look at a Casio watch the same way...

After four years of marriage, the 'Queen & Slim' actress filed for divorce from the 'Dawson's Creek' star in September, citing "irreconcilable differences." The pair shares a 3-year-old daughter.

The couple was previously madly in love and had no pro. "When I first met my husband, we had a one-night stand," Turner-Smith said on Seth Meyers in 2021. "We're in a two, three-year one-night stand now." Meanwhile, in 2022, Jackson had told People: “We have probably the most amazing collaboration you could ever possibly hope for in your life."

They sang about their love on stage, recorded a series of songs together, and announced their engagement last spring. Everything seemed to be going well between the Spanish singer Rosalia and the Puerto Rican Rauw Alejandro. Yet, after three years of romance, their relationship faltered this summer...

The couple separated on good terms, People magazine reported. Rumors of Rauw Alejandro's infidelities circulated on social media, but the two artists denied the information. A few days before the announcement of their breakup, the Spanish singer shed a few tears on the stage of the Lollapalooza festival in Paris as she performed their duet, 'Beso.'

On August 16, TMZ announced that Sam Asghari had filed for divorce from Britney Spears, to whom he had been married for only 14 months. The sports coach (who is now unemployed, per Page Six) met the singer in 2016 on the set of the music video for 'Slumber Party.' They made their relationship public a few months later, in 2017.

According to TMZ, Sam Asghari suspects Britney Spears of having cheated on him with a domestic worker. He would also have made the decision to file for divorce following alleged violence from the pop star. “Sam often complained that Britney was particularly violent with him during their seven years together,” a source close to the couple told TMZ.

In Oct. Jada Pinkett Smith announced that she had been split from her Oscar-winning husband for six years. Yes, this includes during the infamous slap and "get my wife's name out your mouth!" They have not divorced, however.

Amid her ongoing health concerns, Feldman announced his separation from his wife of seven years in August. “There is no one to blame. This is a case of life becoming really hard, Courtney dealing with health issues, and two people who have grown apart and now find themselves at a crossroads," he said.

After 11 years of marriage and two children (Aleph and Amalia), actress Natalie Portman and dancer Benjamin Millepied are on the verge of divorce. The reason would be the alleged infidelity of the 46-year-old French dancer...

In June, the magazine Voici revealed that Benjamin Millepied would have had an affair with French environmental activist Camille Étienne. Rumors increased when Natalie Portman was seen in Sydney at the beginning of August, on her own, and without her wedding ring on her finger. Shortly after, US Weekly confirmed their separation.

Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce in May, citing irreconcilable differences. They were married in 2004 and have three children.

This couple, too, shocked fans and colleagues when they announced their separation. At first, there were just rumors, based on the fact that Joe Jonas sometimes appeared without his wedding band. But in the end, they announced to the press that the relationship was, indeed, over.

The singer (from the Jonas Brothers) and actress ('Game of Thrones') married in 2019 and have two children together. The children are divided across continents, as Turner wants to have them live in the UK and Jonas wants to stay in his home country of America.

American singer Ariana Grande met her big love, the real estate agent Dalton Gomez, in 2020. They married in great secrecy on May 15, 2021. Two years later, however, on July 17, TMZ revealed that the couple were breaking up. It September, it emerged, Grande had officially filed for divorce.

According to several sources relayed by TMZ, the couple separated several months ago due to their very different lifestyles. According to the American media, Dalton Gomez has been dating other women since then, and Ariana Grande has also gotten into a relationship.

Ariana Grande wasted no time and is now allegedly in a relationship with Ethan Slater. She co-stars with the actor in the film 'Wicked,' scheduled for release in 2024.

Ethan Slater had been married since 2018 to Lily Jay, and they had a little boy in 2022. However, according to TMZ, they filed for divorce at the end of July 2023.

Later speaking to Page Six, Jay said that her family is "collateral damage" of the budding romance between her ex and Grande. “[Ariana’s] the story, really. Not a girl’s girl,” Jay said.

Married since 2017, and parents of two children (Lucia, four years old, and Renn, three years old), Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef announced their separation at the beginning of July 2023.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for ourselves and our children, preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple during these years. wonderful years", the couple announced in a press release.

After seven years of marriage, actors Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara ended their love affair in July 2023. According to divorce documents obtained by People magazine, Manganiello spoke of "irreconcilable differences."

Sources close to the couple told TMZ and People that the two actors disagreed about expanding their family and having a child together. "He wanted it, she didn't want it," one of the sources said.

This couple formalized their relationship in 2021. Now, as Entertainment Tonight reports, the model Bella Hadid and art director Marc Kalman are no longer a couple.

Even in the highest levels of politics, summer has taken its toll. Married for 18 years and parents of three children, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire announced their divorce at the beginning of August 2023.

"Justin and I would like to share that after many thoughtful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate," Sophie Grégoire wrote in a message on her Instagram account. "As always, we remain a close family with a deep love for each other," added the now-former First Lady of Canada.
