Big hats: this is where Johnny Depp, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga buy them
In recent years, Johnny Depp has drawn attention on red carpets and in airports thanks to his large, hip hats. As it turns out, he is not the only one loving this particular sombrero style. Singers Sia and Lady Gaga, models Cindy Crawford and Gigi Hadid, as well as the Kardashians, love the hats of this designer. Who is behind the great hats?
Gladys Tamez Millinery is a Mexican designer conquering Hollywood as well as other markets around the world. She is a specialist in making hats, and a star to watch.
If you see Lady Gaga with a well shaped and generously sized hat, there's a good chance that she's wearing Gladys Tamez on her head.
In fact, one of Gladys' hats, a plush pink one, became very famous as the singer wore it on the cover of her album 'Joanne' (2016).
Gladys Tamez Millinery is a luxury brand, handmade with the finest materials in the industry. Its creations have conquered many Hollywood celebrities: besides Johnny and Lady Gaga, her customers also include Beyoncé and Maluma.

The magic of this Mexican lady within the world of handmade hats has gotten her into Forbes Mexico's list of 'The 50 most creative Mexicans in the world'.
The designer inherited the taste for hats from her family. "You could say that I grew up with hats. I come from a bullfighting family and hats were always customary," she told Adela Micha. "You go to the fiesta brava with your bolero. My mother, my aunts, the whole family with them."

Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, great friends and influences, love to show off their Gladys Tamez hats on social media.

And it's really not just for posing and Insta pics that Gigi wears her Tamez hat. It's comfortable enough to use on a daily basis and versatile enough to combine with any sort of outfit.
As you can see, there are a bunch of different models the stars (as well as other customers) can choose from. They have elegant names like 'Joanne' (thanks to Lady Gaga) and Verushka, Dusty, and Turlington. The prices range from $240 to $,000.

The Mexican's favorite models, because they go with everything, are the hats called Phoenix, Bianca, Valentino, Saint Thomas, Jerry Hall, Sinatra, and Thalitha. In fact, she sees these hats as fashion essentials, comparable to the little black dress. You should have one as a basic in your wardrobe and you can combine it with any outfit.

Gladys recalls that her first famous client was Johnny Depp in 2012. "He was the first celebrity. I met him through my husband, as one of his friends was working in the wardrobe area in one of his films," she says.
"I took advantage of the opportunity and sent him a hat," the designer confesses to Luster Magazine. "He sent me a poem in appreciation, because he was fascinated by the style that the hat evoked, and he's been my client ever since."
The actor's hat took Tamez nine hours to mold. She named it 'Johnny.' Here we see what 'Johnny,' the hat design, looks like.
And which hats are Johnny Depp's favorites? The ones also described as 'beaver hats.'
What the stars particularly love about Tamez's work is that her hats are unique. They are handmade one by one. This sets her apart from other luxury companies that make twenty or more hats at the same time with machinery.

On more than one occasion, Gladys has confirmed that she and Lady Gaga are close friends. Lady Gaga is like a muse to Gladys Tamez: someone to work with and an inspiration in aesthetics.
The Australian singer Sia is another celebrity who has worn Gladys's hats beautifully. The designer told Los Angeles Blog that she aims "to have you wear the hat, not the hat wear you." This means that she wants the hat to fit the customer's modern outfits and lifestyle, rather than look like a period piece.
Besides Sia, Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, Kendal Jenner, and Gigi Hadid, the handmade sombreros have also reached Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Maluma, Beyoncé, Samuel L. Jackson, and Janet Jackson.
At the moment, Gladys is living in Los Angeles. She arrived there from Mexico fifteen years ago.
The designer says she has always been fascinated by Hollywood. In Los Angeles, she can let her creativity flow. In addition, she can design hats for film and TV productions, like this episode of 'American Horror Story.'

Gladys Tamez continues to expand. She goes to fashion shows in Paris and even has a spot in the luxury London store Harrods. But regardless of her growth and fame, Tamez still works with the same team of artists, including her husband (on the left). We look forward to seeing more of her hats on our favorite stars!
