Jennifer Lopez opens up: ready to be alone, eager to go on tour
Following a season of ups and downs, including the cancellation of her tour and her divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez reflected in Interview Magazine on how these events transformed her life.
The singer claimed that the separation process taught her to be a complete person on her own. Although she thought she had already learned that, this experience with Ben Affleck made it clear to her that she still needed to work on her personal space.
Without mentioning Ben Affleck directly, JLo shared that a relationship doesn't define who she is. For her, true happiness must come from within, and not be dependent on someone else. "Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself," she told comedian Nikki Glaser, who did the interview.
Jennifer stressed that she is working on self-love. After the separation, she decided that she did not need to look for a new relationship and felt comfortable being alone. "I’m not looking for anybody," she declared. Lopez admitted that it was the first time she was not restless as a single woman.
Although she didn't expect to be single, the singer and actress revealed that being alone was exactly what she needed to find the path to where she wanted to go.
Despite the pain her breakup with Affleck caused her, Jennifer doesn't regret their relationship. In fact, she said their love story was a crucial part of her personal growth. When she was asked if she regretted anything, she said: "Not one second. That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost take me out for good. It almost did. But now, on the other side of it, I think to myself, ‘F-, that is exactly what I needed," Lopez shared.
Jennifer also spoke out about the false stories that circulated following her split. She says she has learned to disconnect her truth from what is being said in the media and doesn't take it as seriously anymore.
Throughout this process, Lopez has focused on her children, Max and Emme, and their emotional well-being. She has put her family before her career at key moments.
The artist explained that canceling her tour was a difficult but necessary decision. During that time, she dedicated herself to healing and reconnecting with herself and her loved ones. "Probably the hardest time of my life, but it was also the best time because I got to do that work on myself," she said.
Although it was a difficult period, Jennifer Lopez is ready to resume her musical career and promised her fans that she will soon return to the stage to continue entertaining. "I’ll be out there entertaining you and shaking my a- sooner than you know," she concluded.
