60-year-old Johnny Depp had a health scare

On June 9, 2023, Johnny Depp turned 60, but it seems that his new life year has not brought too much luck for the actor and musician.

Johnny Depp's health problems while touring with his band

Just nine days after celebrating his birthday, the eternal Jack Sparrow gave a tremendous scare to his friends and bandmates of 'Hollywood Vampires'.

Incident in Budapest

On July 18, when they were supposed to give a concert at the Papp László Sports Arena in Budapest, Hungary, the band released a mysterious statement. It claimed that it had to cancel the concert due to "unexpected circumstances".

Unconscious in his room

What the band didn't tell, but the Hungarian newspaper 'Blikk' revealed, is that Johnny Depp had been found unconscious in his hotel room.

No details about his condition

Apart from the cancellation notice and an apology for the inconvenience, 'Hollywood Vampires' did not offer any details of what had happened.

'Force majeur' but without explanations

The band claimed that there were causes for the cancellation they could not have foreseen and that they would look for a new concert date as soon as possible.

People were already waiting at the venue

"Everything was set, the stage was set, and the backstage crew was ready for the party," a 'Blikk' reporter said. "It didn’t even occur to me that there could be a problem, especially as the band members had done the sound set-up that had been scheduled for the afternoon."

Last-minute cancellation: "His microphone was there"

"No one considered the fact that Johnny Depp wouldn't take part," he added. "His microphone was set up by a staff member."

Pre-concert excesses?

Well, the same newspaper 'Blikk' has updated the original information to ensure that the actor may have relapsed into some of his addictions, to the point of not being able to leave the hotel.

The telltale photo?

A photo published and viralized on Twitter, showed Johnny Depp shortly before the concert, with a drink in his hand. The aforementioned media has gone further and has assured that excess was what caused the fainting of the actor and singer.

Urgent care

According to the local publication 'Blikk,' paramedics had to go to the hotel to rule out further complications.

"He couldn’t even leave the hotel"

"All we’ve heard is that Depp was overwhelmed; he couldn’t even leave the hotel," the reporter states. "We also heard that they called a doctor to see if there was anything more wrong with him than simply the excesses of a rock star."

After one week, back on tour

One week after the incident, and still without knowing exactly what had happened, Johnny Depp returned to the stage with his companions.

Return in Wolfsburg, but no information about Depp's health scare

It was in Wolfsburg, Germany where the band recovered its complete formation. The only thing remaining for them is to recover the lost date in Budapest.

He had talked about substances before

After the announcement about his missed concert, the media recalled the confession of Johnny Depp in court during the case against his ex-partner, Amber Heard. He had said that he used substances sometimes.

"Self-medication"

Johnny Depp said during the trial that he had been 'self-medicating' for years - aka, taking substances. "It was essentially just self-medication. Where you want to escape from is your own brain, your own head."

A mysterious health scare

In the end, the case remains a mystery. There clearly was a health scare, reported by local media, but no information has been released by the band. And even though several media refer to his drug use, this may not have been the cause of the 60+ star's unconsciousness in a Budapest hotel.

Back to normal, for now

The most important thing, however, is that the actor/singer seems to be back on his feet again.
