The Coronation Concert

The royal family can put on a show. The Coronation Concert that was held on 7th May 2023 in honour of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's crowning was a spectacle. Who performed at Windsor Castle and what were the highlights of this memorable event?

A concert for millions of people

The line up included Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Paloma Faith and Take That. They performed to crowds of other royals, celebrity guests, and about 20,000 members of the public. Not to mention the millions sat at home watching live on the BBC.

Pouring in

Earlier in the day, the shots of the thousands of people entering the historic castle were breathtaking. The event was such a huge operation as the East Terrace was used to host a live concert for the very first time.

The Duchess of Edinburgh

Generally beaming from ear to ear, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, waved to crowds as she arrived for the big event with her husband, Prince Edward (Charles' youngest brother), and her children - the Earl of Wessex and Lady Louise.

The Prince and Princess of Wales

Prince William and Princess Catherine walked past spectators to their seats in the front row of the royal box. Smart, yet relaxed, the pair went for suits for the occasion, with Catherine's red suit standing out in the crowd.

Katy Perry

Dressed in a gold foil ball gown, the star performed her pop hit 'Roar', much to the delight of the crowds.

Katy Perry stayed in Windsor Castle

“I am so happy to be here with you people, I love you so much,” she told the crowd. “I am so happy to celebrate this whole weekend, I got to bring my mom she is so happy to be here. We got to stay in Windsor Castle – no big deal.”

A show for the royal family

The royals bobbed along to the Katy Perry songs and Charlotte even seemed to be mouthing the words. The youngster was sat on the front row between her mother, brother George and father, Prince William.

King Charles and Queen Camilla

Along the row from the Prince and Princess of Wales with their two eldest children, were the King and Queen themselves, dressed much less formally than their heavy coronation gear from the day before. They waved to the crowds as they arrived to take their seats.

Royal fans

Children and adults alike huddled close to the royal box to wave, greet and get those all important snaps of the royal family up close.

Olly Murs

Andrea Bocelli and Sir Bryn Terfal

The daylight was leaving and nighttime was welcomed in by the icon Andrea Bocelli with Bryn Terfal. They gave the world a rendition of a very emotional 'You'll Never Walk Alone' - the Liverpool FC anthem. The day before, fans at the Liverpool game had boo'd the National Anthem.

So I feel like yeah it's all part of kind of saying 'thank you'."

Climate

Earlier, on her arrival to the Castle, Paloma Faith had snaps taken in another stand-out outfit. She explained backstage "As you can see I'm sporting a 'climate' t-shirt because the late Vivienne Westwood was also actually a big fan of his, who sadly passed away." She added, "I think it's an important homage to [King Charles III's] work."
