Nicolas Cage's son Weston arrested for allegedly assaulting his mom
Weston Coppola Cage, the son of actor Nicolas Cage, was recently arrested in Los Angeles on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon, LA Police told People magazine.
The arrest is reportedly related to a fight that he had with his mom — Christina Fulton (shown) — in late April. The two have had a publicly rocky relationship. A warrant was issued for him shortly after that incident, according to People. Fox News reports he turned himself in and was later released on a $150,000 bond.
After the violent incident, his mom Fulton, 56, released a statement to People, saying his friends called her to the scene because Weston was having a crisis. "Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience. I have always supported helping my son with his mental health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."
In July, Fulton released another statement saying: "When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries," she said. However, knowing the condition of her son, she said she urged police to detain him for a mental health evaluation — something they denied.
The police say the violence began when Weston got into a fight with his mom, according to People, something she denied. "During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury. LAPD responded, and after meeting with all parties, a police report was completed," authorities told People.
Fulton, who began dating Nicolas Cage in 1988, had Weston in 1990, but the relationship broke up shortly after, added that she is "deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s ongoing mental-health crisis…. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs." Whether he would agree with her assessment remains to be seen.... as you'll understand if you keep reading about their story.
It is unclear what deadly weapon was involved, nor when it was allegedly used during the altercation. A representative for Weston did not respond to People's requests for comment.
Weston, who has been open with his battles around substance abuse, was arrested for a DUI and a hit and run in Los Angeles in 2017. According to police, Cage crashed into stop signs, a street sign, parked cars, and multiple mailboxes before crashing his white Chevy Camaro into a tree. He allegedly fled the scene.
In 2015, he spoke about his alcoholism to People magazine. He said he quit when he was 24 after suffering from severe withdrawal. "It got to the point where people thought I was digging my grave," he told People, adding that his son Lucian, born in 2014, also helped "save his life." He was estranged from his mom at the time.
Born in 1990, Weston Cage Coppola is an actor, recording artist, music producer, and mixed martial artist, according to IMDB.
Weston has scored major films like 'Drive Angry' and 'Ghost Rider.' The 6'4" musician was also in a Black Metal band, inventing something he called 'Ghost Metal,' as he told Vice in 2014. At the time, he said the album coming out was about his mom: "She has a victim complex, and the lyrics are interesting because they kind of mock the things she would say… I had a very tumultuous relationship with my mother."
In the same Vice interview, Weston added that his mom had Borderline Personality Disorder and Munchausen by Proxy Disorder — a mental health disorder in which a caregiver creates the appearance of health problems in another person, typically their child. "With that combo, she’s always the victim, and I'm the most diseased person in the world. It’s disturbing," he said, foreshadowing the events ten years later.

In 2005, he made his major debut in the legendary Cage film 'Lord of War,' and has appeared in several films since then. His latest one was 'The Night They Came Home' — a 2024 Western thriller in which his father did not appear.
While things with his mom have been fraught, to say the least, it appears that he has upheld a fairly solid relationship with his Oscar-winning dad, who had three children with three different women. In 2015, he gushed about Weston to People: "He can do things I dream about doing… compose music, sing, act, sculpt and cook and now he is a loving father," he said. "To see my son with my grandson is as close to a sense of blissful completion I ever had."
The 33-year-old has four children of his own: Cyress, Venice, Lucian, and Sorin from two marriages, which both ended. Weston and his mother were actually suing his second ex-wife Hilia (shown) for embezzlement, a smear campaign, and keeping her grandchildren from her.
As a final fact: did you know that Nicolas Cage could be considered a 'nepo baby?' He was born by the name Nicolas Kim Coppola. His father was academic August Coppola and his uncle is legendary director Francis Ford Coppola (shown). That makes Francis Ford Coppola Weston's great uncle. Due to his dad's relationships, Weston is also the former stepson of Lisa Marie Presley and Patricia Arquette.
