Shrimp dumpling kills 27-year-old influencer in Brazil
This social media star from Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), Brendo Yan, died in late April after a strong allergic reaction to shrimp. He was only 27 years old.
He had gotten some dumplings from a neighbor, the ingredients of which he did not know at the time.
His wife, Victoria Figueiredo, told the Metrópoles website that when Brendo started eating, she felt that the dumpling smelled like fish, but he believed it to be chicken and kept eating. He said it didn't smell like fish.
Then, the young man, allergic to shrimp, started to feel bad. He quickly took an anti-allergic drug at home while Victoria went to ask for help from the neighbors.
They took Brendo to the nearest emergency room, but it was too late: he had a cardiac arrest.
Briefly, the internet star was revived, intubated, and taken to the ICU of a hospital in the city of Natal.
After a few days, radiological examinations confirmed Brendo Yan's brain death. Eventually, the hospital confirmed that the young man could not be saved.
Brendo Yan was much loved by colleagues and fans, as can be seen from his Instagram profile. It has over 13,000 followers.
Many describe the man as "polite" and "cheerful." On his Instagram profile, photos abound of Brendo smiling and in contact with nature.
Brendo promoted local commercial establishments, such as an optician, a tattoo parlor, and a snack bar.
Brendo was deeply connected to his African-Brazilian religion, Candomblé. He wrote several publications about his devotion.
Brendo Yan was also a young man concerned with those most in need.
He founded the "Bloco do Anjinho," the Assembly of Angels, which paraded in the 2023 Carnival. The money raised from participants provided the local community with food baskets.
While growing as an influencer, Brendo had a day job as an administrative assistant.
For his wife, the loss is particularly painful. Brendo Yan was married to Victoria for just 1 year.
In an emotional post on her Instagram profile, Victoria said goodbye to Brendo: “Thank you for loving me, thank you for letting me love you. We fought together until the end, I will love you forever.”
