The 2023 Oscar nominations are right around the corner

Millions of people will be glued to some form of electronic device on the morning of January 24, when the 2023 Oscar nominations are announced to the public. The nominees, surely dressed in their most glamorous attire, will be awarded during the live, televised ceremony on Sunday, March 12th.

The predictions so far...

2022 was an impressive year for cinema, making the 2023 Oscars a tight race among a very talented group of actors and actresses, among many other film industry creatives. Let's see who is in the running to take home the coveted gold statue.

Sadie Sink - 'The Whale'

Sadie Sink for 'The Whale' - The young protagonist of 'Stranger Things' may close out a glorious 2022 with a well-deserved and long-awaited nomination. In 'The Whale,' she plays the daughter of Brendan Fraser.

Brendan Fraser - 'The Whale'

Brendan Fraser for 'The Whale' - The Oscar that seemingly everyone is rooting for him to win. With one of the most applauded comebacks in Hollywood history, Fraser has overcome more than 20 years of defeat to make his way back to the silver screen in this Aronofsky role in 'The Whale,' where he absolutely shines.

Ana de Armas - 'Blonde'

Ana de Armas for 'Blonde' - While the initially lukewarm reception of the film might have chilled any Oscar buzz, Armas' undeniable talent in her role as Monroe leaves no discussion for her as a favorite nominee contender.

Harry Styles - 'Don't Worry Darling'

Harry Styles for 'Don't Worry, Darling' - The singer's arrival in the world of acting has been lightning-fast and full of controversy, partly due to his high-profile romance with co-star/director Olivia Wilde. However, this may only play up the odds for him in his hopes of a nomination for the role.

Florence Pugh - 'Don't Worry Darling'

Florence Pugh for 'Don't Worry, Darling' -
This would be her second nomination for an Oscar, cementing her status as an A-list star, for which her acting talent is already establishing on its own. Pugh is the unmistakable lead in this film and excels in every scene, a clear favorite for the nomination.

Harry Styles - 'My Policeman'

Harry Style for 'My Policeman' - Yes, you heard that right, Harry Styles has taken the film industry by storm in 2022, performing in two movies this year, and perhaps may be nominated for both. Watch out for Harry, he's out to dominate!

Michelle Yeoh - 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'

Michelle Yeoh for 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' - She may not be a front runner for the nomination, but with her bizarre and absolutely hypnotic performance in this film, she might be the surprise contender to be nominated and to win!

Austin Butler - 'Elvis'

Austin Butler for 'Elvis' - Many people were surprised by director Baz Luhrman's choice to cast Austin Butler as Elvis Presley in his spectacular biopic. But with the Presley family standing strong in support of Butler's performance, and the audience by their side, the young actor is a strong choice to be among the five chosen to compete for the Oscar.

Margot Robbie - 'Babylon'

Margot Robbie for 'Babylon' - This Australian actress has built an outstanding career for herself, with 'Babylon' continuing her trajectory towards excellence. Damian Chazelle of 'LaLaLand' is back directing with this film, and hoping as well to win big at this next Oscars, perhaps finally taking home the Oscar he 'almost' had in 2017. Oops.

Tom Hanks - 'Elvis'

Tom Hanks for 'Elvis' - It would appear that Tom Hanks might have accumulated a trophy case full of Oscars, but alas, he has had six nominations during his career, with two Oscars statues in his possession. His role as Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' manager, is likely to earn him a seventh nomination and, who knows, possibly his third Oscar.

Olivia Colman - 'Empire of Light'

Olivia Coleman for 'The Empire of Light' -
Coleman is really hitting her stride in her career, dominating her craft and giving amazing performances. She is a front-runner for a nomination and a win, said by the media and journalists alike.

Leonardo DiCaprio - 'Killers of the Flower Moon'

Leonardo DiCaprio - 'Killers of the Flower Moon' - DiCpario is actually similar to Hanks, in that we would think he has a house filled with Oscar statues, however, he has had six nominations and a single win, possessing one lonely Oscar statue on his bookshelf. Perhaps 2023 will be the year his Oscar is given a pair, with a win for his role in the 'Killers of the Flower Moon.'

Carey Mulligan - 'She Said'

Carey Mulligan for 'She Said' - Carey Mulligan continues to raise the bar for herself, with each of her performances outdoing the one prior. In this story, she recalls the beginning of the #MeToo movement as one of the New York Times journalists who revealed the gruesome stories of Hollywood.

Colin Farrell - 'The Banshees of Inisherin'

Colin Farrell in 'The Banshees of Inisherin' - Colin Farrell has been hovering around an Oscar nomination for some time, and it seems that his time may have finally arrived. Consolidated and respected, it would be the leap that his career has been missing to rise even higher in the ranks of Hollywood's top A-list actors.

Cate Blanchett - 'TÁR'

Cate Blanchett for 'TAR' - With seven nominations and two golden statues so far, Blanchett may be up for a third in 2023. With a role catered to her, she shines in a story that combines music and motherhood.

Hugh Jackman - 'The Son'

Hugh Jackman for 'The Son' - The Australian actor has nailed the role of a father to a troubled teenage son and is poised to land what would be the second nomination of his career.

Emma Thompson - 'Good Luck to You, Big Leo'

Emma Thompson for 'Good Luck, Big Leo' - One of the big surprises of the year comes from Emma Thompson, who plays a widowed professor in this incredible performance by a seasoned actress.

Bill Nighy - 'Living'

Bill Nighy for 'Living' - The film hasn't had much of an impact, but Bill Nighy as the lead is impactful, and as each day passes, the chances of him receiving his first Oscar nomination rise.

Michelle Williams - 'The Fabelmans'

Michelle Williams for 'The Fabelmans' - At the hands of Spielberg, Michelle Williams could nab her fifth Oscar nomination for her spectacular role as an eccentric fifty-year-old artist and mother. Although she is not pegged as the favorite for the nomination, or the win, surprises always happen at the Oscars!

Jenna Ortega – 'The Fallout'

Jenna Ortega for 'The Fallout' - Ortega may cap off a sensational 2022 with a nomination no one could argue with. In 'The Fallout,' she plays out the aftermath of a massacre at the university where she is studying. Her tremendous performance, added to her new star status thanks to 'Wednesday,' may raise her nomination chances.

Danielle Deadwyler - 'Till'

Danielle Deadwyler for 'Till' - It was the crime that changed everything and perhaps Cate Blanchett's greatest rival for the statue. Danielle Deadwyler took the Gotham Award for Best Lead Actress for her role as a 1950s mother of courage and is a definite contender for the 2023 Oscar nomination.

Viola Davis - 'The Woman King'

Viola Davis for 'The King Woman' - Viola Davis is secure among the nominees for an Oscar in this role. She continues to dominate the acting field and shows the cinema industry that she is here to stay as a grounding force in the acting world.
