Australian actor Troy Beckwith, who rose to fame thanks to the popular series 'Neighbours', died at the age of 48 after a long battle with cancer.

In 'Neighbours', which began broadcasting in 1985, Troy played the villain Michael Martin for 6 years, from 1992 to 1998.

His sister, Juanita Sanger, wrote in her social networks a farewell message for the actor, who passed away on January 24 and whom she described as 'A free spirit that couldn’t be held down'.

"Troy we will always remember that most mischievous, contagious laugh. Everyone loved you," his sister expressed.

In addition, his sister indicated that the actor is surely already with his mother, who has passed away. "I know Mum will be so happy to be reunited with her boy. Peace at last," she said.

And while his loss is heartbreaking, his family and friends have found comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering and will be able to rest in peace. "Troy, you were a pain in my [butt], but I loved you dearly. I’m just glad you’re free from pain," wrote on Facebook his friend Selina Bonica.

And actress Kym Valentine, Troy's partner in the series 'Neighbours', was in charge of announcing that no funeral will be held in his honor, as requested by the actor himself.

"Another member of our TV family gone way too soon. There will be no funeral as per Troy’s request. Thanks for all the memories my cheeky mate and all my love to your friends and family," expressed Valentine.

Actor Brett Blewitt, who also starred in the Australian series, said goodbye to his friend, "He was such a lovely person. Deeply thoughtful and empathetic. Cheeky and playful once out of his shell. Way too soon. Love you mate."
