They went into rehab and talked openly about it
Celebrities have all the money and success in the world, but sometimes this includes the dangers of addictive substances. Even the seemingly quiet life of retired actress Eva Mendes has had some difficult moments in that respect. She fought an addiction to illegal substances in 2008 and went to a rehab facility in Utah.
After Mendes went into rehab, her agent released a statement, cited in US Weekly: "Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support."

For the pop star, then 25, that was one of the darkest periods of her life, as it coincided with the separation from ex-Kevin Federline and the difficult fight for custody of their children.

For the famous actor and director, the battle of 2001 was only the first. In 2015, he had to go back to rehab again with the support of his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
In 2011, Charlie Sheen ('Two and a Half Men') entered a rehab center following a hospitalization, thus interrupting the filming of his famous show.
Sheen has never hidden his problems with illegal substances and alcohol. In the talk show 'Loose Women,' he introduced himself as a 'rehab graduate.' "To this day, I am not sure how I created such chaos and wound up in that headspace. It's as though there was some alien or demonic possession going on," he said, according to the Daily Mail.
Kelly Osbourne also had to fight long and bitter battles with alcohol abuse. She confirmed it herself in a post on Instagram, reported by the Herald Mail Media: "I am an addict and had thought that I had enough time under my belt and I could drink like a normal person, and it turns out I cannot and I will never be normal."

The 'Iron Man' actor has repeatedly spoken about his strong addictions. On several occasions, he has had to resort to rehabilitation to get out of the negative cycle. Because of his addictions, Robert Downey Jr. even ended up in prison.
One of the most infamous episodes in Robert Downey Jr.'s struggles with addiction dates back to 2001, when he was found wandering barefoot around Culver City (California) and was arrested on suspicion of being under the effect of illegal substances. That incident cost him his role in 'Ally McBeal,' and he was ordered to go to rehab, as reported by the New York Times.
Lindsay Lohan considers herself an "expert in rehab," as she told CNN: "I’ve been court-ordered to do it six times," she said. "I could write the book on rehab. Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless. The first few times I was court-ordered to rehab, it was like a joke, like killing time."
"I look at it as a good thing," she continued on CNN. "I can come back afterward and be fully focused on work. But I think there are other things I could do instead of going to a rehab center that would benefit me more. The best thing they could do for me would be to make me go abroad to different countries and work with children."

Famously, the late British singer Amy Winehouse expressed her opinion on rehabilitation in the hit single 'Rehab.' The singer had long been struggling with alcohol and substance abuse but did not feel a rehabilitation center would help her get better.
