Film and fashion: a winning combination

Valentino knows it well: cinema and fashion have always gone hand in hand, and not just on the red carpet. The clothes worn by actors and actresses on sets have played an important, if not fundamental, role in turning a film into a legend. In this gallery, we look at some films that, in some way, celebrate the decidedly winning combination between these two arts.

In the photo, Valentino poses with the poster of the documentary dedicated to him: 'Valentino: The Last Emperor'

House of Gucci

The plot of the film is inspired by a real event: the murder of Maurizio Gucci, orchestrated by his wife Patrizia Reggiani. The culprit is played by Lady Gaga. Moving between impressive vintage and current dresses from the great Double G house, the story of the case that shocked Italy in 1972 arrived on screens in 2021.

Personal Shopper

Kristen Stewart (Maureen in the film) takes care of the wardrobe of a famous woman in Paris. What happens when she enters the world of fashion is... well... indescribable. You have to see the movie!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Rebecca is a journalist obsessed with shopping. She never makes ends meet, but she doesn't care... until one day she decides to overcome her addiction. The story of her drastic surgery is a joy to behold.

The Neon Demon

The world of fashion is celebrated in this film with all its lights and all its shadows. An excellent Elle Fanning plays a young model who moves from a small town in Georgia to Los Angeles and has to face the envy and malice of her colleagues.

Jingle All the Way

This is a story of Christmas Eve combined with the frenzy of Black Friday. Howard travels all over town looking for a toy action figure he promised his son for Christmas. The quest becomes a great adventure with heroes and villains. Arnold Schwarzenegger is hilarious.

Coco avant Chanel

The story of Coco Chanel before becoming Coco: this 2009 French film retraces the difficult and controversial life of the French designer, played by Audrey Tatou. It also helps us understand the extent and value of the legacy that she has left us

Clueless

For many, this is the best teen movie ever. Cher and Dionne are the most popular girls in school and their looks are envied by everyone. Popularity can also hide insecurities, but all of this is tempered by shopping.

Pretty Woman

This famous scene from 'Pretty Woman' shows a beaming Vivian who, after being mistreated by a clerk in a shop, returns well-dressed and ready to teach that rude clerk a lesson.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Holly and Paul are two neighbors striving in vain for success. They decide to spend a day doing things they've never done before, like checking out Tiffany's jewelry collection. The store front is Holly's favorite place, and she always goes there to feel safe when she's having a bad day.

Funny Face

Throughout her career, Audrey Hepburn was able to dictate trends like few other actresses. In this 1950 film, she plays a shy young bookshop clerk who is discovered and hired as a model for a fashion magazine. Awkward and adorable, Hepburn gives life to a character that may be a little underrated.

Hannah Montana: The Movie

The hit Disney series 'Hannah Montana' has been made into a movie, giving us one of the funniest playdates for teens. In one scene, the characters played by Miley Cyrus and Tyra Banks fight over a pair of shoes in a store. Who will win?

Yves Saint Laurent

Two films about the famous French designer were released in 2014. We especially recommend the one signed by Jalil Lespert, telling the life story of the incomparable Yves Saint Laurent in all its complexity. It offers us an intimate, personal and, at times, decidedly moving portrait of a man who changed the history of fashion.

Nerve

Emma Roberts plays Vee Delmonico who's involved in a dangerous online game. She must pass several tests so as not to disappoint the public. An example: "What would happen if you went into that store and tried on the most expensive dress?"

Crazy Stupid Love

In this film, the character played by Ryan Gosling becomes a master of conquering women for his co-star Steve Carrell. To instruct him in the discipline of love, he starts by helping his pupil adapt his wardrobe to the latest trends in men's fashion.

The Devil Wears Prada

Naturally, this classic could not be missing from the list. It's about the world of fashion and advertising, starring an unforgettable Meryl Streep. Here, the poor Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) gets help from fashion expert Nigel (Stanley Tucci). He transforms her in a way that will change the lives of all the characters in the film.

The Dressmaker

In this film, Kate Winslet stars as a young seamstress returning to her hometown. It had been the scene of a crime for which the seamstress was considered responsible.
