What happened to the cast of the original 'Gossip Girl'?

Years have gone by since the legendary TV hit 'Gossip Girl' had its last episode. Do you still recognize its cast?

It's been over ten years since we last saw the famous 'Gossip Girl' cast. And although in 2021, a sequel of the show was released, nothing can beat the original... Do you remember the main characters of the series?

First of all, the famous Serena. As the episodes of 'Gossip Girl' progressed, she and her 'frenemy' Blair Waldorf became the main characters of the series. Serena begins the storyline as a wicked and popular girl who runs away from her mysterious past and tries to change. But then she lives several new stories: a romance with Nate but also a very intense relationship with Dan.

Blake Lively is the 'Gossip Girl' actress with the most success after the series ended. She appears in about two films per year and is one of the favorite celebrities on the red carpet, especially at the Met Gala one.

As we have mentioned, Blake Lively has extensive filmography. Some of the most relevant movies of the actress are: 'The Age of Adaline' (2015), 'A Simple Favor' (2017), and 'The Rythm Section' (2020), for which she was praised by critics.

While shooting 'Gossip Girl', she had a relationship with Penn Badgley for three years. After breaking up, they had to work together for a while longer.

And although the actress was also linked to Leonardo DiCaprio in the summer of 2011, in 2012, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were getting married. They are one of the most loved couples on the internet and have three beautiful daughters. Blake Lively is currently pregnant with their fourth child.

Blair Waldorf - or rather "Queen B" - is undoubtedly the most charismatic character of the series. She is capricious, resentful, and super intelligent, but she knows how to make herself loved. She has an apparently impossible love affair with Chuck Bass.

The actress behind 'Queen B' still works as an actress but also started a music career. Leighton Meester has appeared in films such as 'Country Strong' and 'The Roommate.' She also performed on Broadway with James Franco and released the music album 'Heartstrings.'

After the show, Leighton continued her work in the industry, especially on television. The most relevant projects of the actress have been the ABC show 'Single Parents' (2018-2020) where she was a part of the main cast in 45 episodes; and, since 2022, we have been able to see the actress in a recurring role as Meredith in the new series starring Hillary Duff, 'How I Met Your Father'.

During 'Gossip Girl' she dated one of her colleagues, Sebastian Stan, but since 2013, the actress is currently in a relationship with actor and musician Adam Brody, who she married in 2014. The couple has two children together.

Dan is known in the series as "lonely boy." He is the only one who does not have a very high standard of living, and he ends up at St Jude's school by chance. In the first part of the series, Dan Humphrey must endure the contempt of his fellow students. After that, he has a relationship with Serena Van Der Woodsen and a romance with Vanessa Abrams. Along with Blair and Serena, Dan Humphrey is the only character who appears in all episodes of the series, from 2007 to 2012.

Penn Badgley has always said he didn't like his appearance in 'Gossip Girl' very much. After the series, he devoted himself entirely to a music career. Badgley has been the lead singer of the band 'MOTHXR'.

Since 2018, he has positioned himself on the frontlines of TV land again by shining in the Netflix drama 'You'. The actor. who is also a producer of the show, is going to be Joe Goldberg again in the fourth season of the series.

As we have previously said, Dan and Serena's relationship was a thing in real life for a while. Later, Badgley also dated actress Zoë Kravitz. However, in 2014, the actor started dating singer Domino Kirke who he married in 2017. In 2020, the couple welcomed their first child together.

At first he is unpleasant, contemptuous and on the wrong track, but then Chuck Bass transforms through his love affair with Blair Waldorf. In the end, the bully even becomes an endearing character. He is ambitious and one of the protagonists with the most money and power. His clothing style is very typical: he always wears suits with extravagant (bow) ties.

The British actor also dedicated himself to music after the show (just like Penn Badgley and Leighton Meester), and during his time on 'Gossip Girl' was part of the rock band 'The Filthy Youth'. In January 2023, Westwick released a single with his new band 'For You' where he is the lead singer.

However, Westwick has appeared on the big screen as well, with movies like 'J. Edgar,' 'Romeo and Juliet' (2013), 'The Crash' (2017), and 'Wolves of War' (2022). It is also worth mentioning his role as Vincent Swan in season two of the BBC sitcom 'White Gold'.

Actor Ed Westwick had a relationship with Jessica Szohr, one of the fellow cast members of 'Gossip Girl' (yes, it was obviously a trend!), and since 2022, is in a relationship with actress Amy Jackson.

But Ed Westwick's career took a dark turn when the actor was accused of sexual assault. However, in 2018, all accusations were dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

Nate Archibald begins the series as a spoiled daddy boy who gets everything he wants thanks to his family name. Over the course of the series, this character evolves though: He rebels against his parents and triumphs on his own merits in the end. Nate is also a hopeless romantic who constantly searches for love and repeatedly misses out on relationships.

Even though we saw actor Chace Crawford in the series 'Blood & Oil' and the film 'What to Expect When You're Expecting', the career of the actor seemed to have really slowed down. However, in 2019 Crawford began playing the role of Kevin Moskowitz / The Deep in the Amazon Prime superhero TV show 'The Boys'. The actor is part of the main cast of the successful series which will return for a fourth season.

Chace Crawford has always been very private about his relationships and is supposedly single as of now. The actor has famously dated actresses Ashley Greene and Rebecca Rittenhouse (in the picture). In the past, he got into trouble with a cannabis addiction and was even arrested, but nothing very serious.

This is Dan Humphrey's little sister. She is first of all a sweet and innocent girl, from a working-class neighborhood, who tries to find her place among the richest high schoolers in American society. But then, over the course of the episodes, she undergoes a physical evolution and adopts the look of a "rocker."

Jenny Humphrey's character matches the actress's temperament because, as the producers of the series said, "working with her is a real hell." As a singer in the hard rock band 'The Pretty Reckless', she has gradually transformed her image into a gothic aesthetic, dressed in black and with dark make-up.

Although Momsen is far away from her acting days, the actress will always be remembered for her role as Jenny Humphrey and as Cindy Lou Who in the Christmas fan favorite 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' (2000) in which she starred at 7 years old.

Whatever happened to Taylor Momsen, the memorable Jenny from 'Gossip Girl'?

According to Cecily von Ziegesar, the author of the books on which the series is based, Vanessa did not become the character that she had originally intended, and she was disappointed by it. This bohemian girl from a working-class neighborhood in Brooklyn arrives in the sixth episode of 'Gossip Girl'. She has a deep hatred for American high society. As Dan Humphrey's ex, she still has feelings for him, but she also helps him to seduce the posh Serena Van Der Woodsen.

The actress behind Vanessa had a romance with Ed Westwick during the shooting of the series. Afterward, she starred in films like 'Ted 2' and 'The Internship,' and in several episodes of 'Twin Peaks'. She also appeared in the music video for Taylor Swift's '22'. Currently, the actress is part of the main cast of the show 'The Orville' as Talla Keyali.

In January 2022, the actress started a podcast called 'XOXO with Jessica Szohr', where she discusses facts and behind the scene stories about 'Gossip Girl' with other members of the cast.

Lily is the mother of Serena and Eric Van Der Woodsen. She is an elitist and superficial woman who will do anything (even immoral things) to protect her family. She is divorced from Bart Bass (Ed Westwick's father) and has a relationship with Ruphus Humphrey, Dan's father, which helps her set aside all her prejudices about lower-class people.

Actress Kelly Rutherford appeared in the series 'Jane the Virgin' and 'Dynasty'. The actress also had a main role in the 'Pretty Little Liars' spin-off 'The Perfectionists' in 2019. Besides some other made-for-TV movies, the actress is not currently involved in any acting projects.

The actress got divorced twice and went out with Matthew Settle (Ruphus Humphrey) in real life. She has two children from her second marriage to Daniel Giersch with whom she had a gruesome battle for the custody of their children.

Ruphus Humphrey is the father of Dan and Jenny. He's a successful musician from the '90s who has been on the decline for 20 years. Humble and generous, his priority is to pass on beautiful values to his children. He is in love with Lily Van Der Woodsen, but the social differences between the two are a difficult obstacle to overcome.

Before 'Gossip Girl', Matthew Settle was known as Captain Ronald Spiers in the American series 'Band of Brothers'. During 'Gossip Girl,' he was married to actress Naama Nativ and had a daughter with her. In 2011, the couple divorced, and now he is with Maria Alfonsin, the mother of his second child. Settle has not filmed a lot since 'Gossip Girl,' but he did appear in theater performances in the 2010s.

Eric is Serena Van Der Woodsen's little brother. He is tender, sensitive, and friendly. As the only important gay character in the series, he gets along very well with Jenny Humphrey.

Before 'Gossip Girl,' Connor Paolo also played a young Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's film 'Alexander'. After the series, he returned to the role of prep school kid as Declan Porter in the series 'Revenge'. The last project we saw the actor in was the comedy 'Distancing Socially' (2021) which was filmed remotely in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Georgina Sparks is a toxic friend of Serena Van Der Woodsen. She is a great manipulator and liar who always makes for good storylines. Georgina is willing to do anything to get what she wants, without any exceptions.

Michelle Trachtenberg was already known before 'Gossip Girl' from the series 'Six Feet Under' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. After 'Gossip Girl,' she did a few more projects but none of them came close to her earlier successes. However, since 2021, she is the host of the Tubi true crime show 'Meet, Marry, Kill', and in 2022, appeared in a couple of episodes of the 'Gossip Girl' sequel.

Carter Baizen only appears in 11 episodes, but he is an important character nevertheless. His place in the series is that of the number one enemy of Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald. He has an affair with Blair Waldorf, although he is really in love with Serena Van Der Woodsen.

Sebastian Stan is an actor of Romanian origin. He continued his career in major film projects after 'Gossip Girl,' with the Marvel franchise as a high point. You may recognize him as Bucky Barnes, the Soldier of Winter. But the actor has been involved in many other successful projects like the Hulu miniseries 'Pam & Tommy' where he played the role of Tommy Lee Jones, and in the movies 'The Martian', 'Logan Lucky', 'I, Tonya', and 'Fresh'.

Juliet Sharp is at the center of the fourth season of 'Gossip Girl'. She wants revenge on Serena Van Der Woodsen, whom she blames for the fact that her brother is in prison. Her method? Seducing Serena's two loves: Dan and Nate. Although her relationship with Nate starts out of pure interest, she ends up having real feelings of love for him.

The actress has a large filmography (series and films) on her resume. She appeared in series such as 'Supernatural', 'Melrose Place: New Generation' and 'Arrow'. Some of her films are 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', 'Monte Carlo' and 'Wolves at the Door', and more recently in 'Agent Game' along with Damon Mulroney and Mel Gibson. Katie Cassidy was married for thirteen months to Matthew Rodgers, but in 2020 she filed for divorce.

Kristen Bell, Gossip Girl's voice-over since the first season, was a major part of the series. And again in the new sequel of the show, Bell is the voice of the online gossipy website narrator.

The actress became famous for her role in the TV show 'Veronica Mars' but continued her career on the small screen in series like 'House of Lies' (2012-2016) and NBC 'The Good Place' (2016-2020). However, Kristen has also been successful in several comedy films like ' When in Rome' and 'Bad Moms', and has become an unforgettable Disney icon thanks to her role as the voice of Anna in the 'Frozen' franchise.

Some had more successful careers than others, but the truth is that the cast of the original 'Gossip Girl' series will always be remembered. We will have to wait to find out if the cast of the new show's sequel, which is currently in its second season, will have the same luck as the original one.
