The debate on surrogacy is open. And while there are countries like Spain where it is considered a form of violence against women, in others - like the United States, it is fully accepted as another reproductive technique. A method to which some of the most famous personalities in the world are increasingly resorting, for different reasons...
One of them is Paris Hilton, who together with her husband, economist Carter Reum, announced in January 2023 that they has just become parents of little Phoenix Barron, their first child, who came into the world thanks to a surrogate. "You are already loved beyond words," wrote the celebrity, who had already acknowledged her fertility problems in the past on her social networks.
Health problems also made Kim Kardashian opt for surrogacy to bring her two youngest children, Chicago (2018) and Psalm West (2019), into the world. And as she herself told on her family's reality show, after having the two older ones, North and Saint, doctors had warned her of the risks that another pregnancy would pose to her body.
And it was Kim Kardashian herself who convinced her sister Khloé to resort to surrogacy to become a mother again in 2022 with her partner, basketball player Tristan Thompson, with whom she had already had her first daughter, True (2018), naturally. And the criticism rained down on her both for her photo tucked in a hospital bed with her newborn baby (as if she had given birth herself), and for her words on the Kardashians' reality show about the process: “When the baby comes it will be a blessing, but the waiting process… this sh^* sucks,”
Elton John and his husband, film director David Furnish, managed to fulfill their dream of becoming parents in Christmas 2010, when Zachary, their first child, was born thanks to a surrogate mother. The same also gave birth to Elias (2013), the couple's second child. Previously, in 2009, the two had tried to adopt an HIV-positive child in Ukraine, but the country's authorities prevented them from doing so because they were a same-sex couple and because of the singer's age (he was 62 at the time).

January 2022 started with good news for Priyanka Chopra and her husband, singer Nick Jonas, as they became parents of little Malti Marie through surrogacy. Apparently, according to some American tabloids, Chopra might have suffered from fertility problems. "I had medical complications. This was a necessary step. Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months," she said in February in the British edition of Vogue magazine.
In the same way, fertility problems made Nicole Kidman adopt her two older children, Connor and Isabella, with Tom Cruise. However, in 2008, already married to musician Keith Urban, she was able to give birth to Sunday Rose, her first biological daughter. She was followed in 2011 by another baby girl, Faith Margaret, who was born through surrogacy.
Fashion designer and television personality Tan France and his husband, Rob, let the world know in 2021 that they had become parents to their first child, Ismail France, who was born on July 10, 2021. And in May 2023 they repeated the experience with the arrival of their second son, Isaac.
