Stars we lost in May 2024
Several drummers lost their lives in May 2024. One of them was the American John Barbata, who had played with such bands as The Turtles, Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in the 1960s and 1970s. He died at the age of 79.
The American actor Johnny Wactor, known for his work in the series 'General Hospital', lost his life in Los Angeles while trying to prevent the theft of his car's catalytic converter. The thieves shot and killed him, his mother told TMZ.
The American filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, famous for his documentary 'Super Size Me' in which he spent a month eating fast food only, died at the age of 53 from a tumor. Spurlock was also known to have had a drinking problem, which was likely to contribute to the health issues he displayed while eating fast food for 'Super Size Me'.
At the age of 92, Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro has passed away. She died in a nursing home in Ontario (Canada), where she had been admitted for twelve years due to senile dementia.
This American-Canadian producer was known for films such as 'The Godfather' (1973) and 'Million Dollar Baby' (2005) and was a two-time Oscar winner. He died at the age of 94 from a brief illness.
The founder of the band Train tragically lost his life at the age of 58 after a freak accident in a bathroom. His body was found lifeless in the house he was sitting for friends in Brussels (Belgium). It seems he slipped in the shower and made a deadly fall.
The British actor Bernard Hill, known for works such as 'Titanic' or 'The Lord of the Rings', died at the age of 79 on May 5.
At 72 years old, actress Susan Buckner, famous for her role as Patty Simcox in 'Grease', has left us. The causes of death have not been revealed, but as confirmed by her publicist to CNN, she died peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones.
CNN anchor and commentator Alice Stewart was found dead outside the Belle View neighborhood in northern Virginia where she lived. She was 58 years old. There are no suspicions that the death was related to a crime and the police have pointed to a medical emergency.

British actor Ian Gelder, known, among others, for roles such as Kevan Lannister in 'Game of Thrones', died on May 6 from bile duct cancer.
The American fighter Geane Herrera, formerly of the UFC, died in a motorcycle accident in Tampa (Florida). He was 33 years old.
American drummer Jon Wysocki died at age 53. Although the official cause of his death has not been revealed, TMZ claims he had liver problems.
American actor Dabney Coleman, winner of the 1987 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series for his role in 'The Slap Maxwell Story', died at 92.

Known as El Flaco, César Luis Menotti was one of the most important figures in Argentine football. He died on May 5 as a result of severe anemia, for which he had been admitted to a hospital in Buenos Aires on March 30.
The Mexican actress and presenter Verónica Toussaint died at age 48 after having been hospitalized for ten days as a result of her breast cancer.
